Nigar Awards are back with a bang
Nigar Awards will be making a comeback after 12 years on 16th March 2017.
HIP DESK ABOUT 6 HOURS AGO
Thursday evening saw the prominent veterans, as well as young members of the Pakistani entertainment industry, gather at Beach Luxury Karachi for the Press Conference of the 47th Nigar Awards. Yes, you read it right, the prestigious Nigar Awards are making a comeback, and are known for being the most authentic in the industry.
Nigar Awards started off in 1958 by Ilyas Rashidi, and after his death, they were continued by Aslam Ilyas Rashidi until 2002. The a wards were eventually discontinued because the state of the film industry of Pakistan kept deteriorating.
Here's all that happened at the star-studded press conference:
The conference was attended by prominent celebrities which ranged from senior to relatively junior artists. The artists present at the event to showcase their support for the revival of these reputable awards were Mustafa Qureshi, film star Saud, Humayun Saeed, Aamina Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, Sahir Lodhi, Asim Raza, and Adnan Shah.
Shanaz Ramzi hosted the event, and is also a committee member of the awards as well as someone who has been in the industry for a long time. The conference kick started with a trailer, which took us down memory lane by showing clips from the 5 decades of Nigar awards.
It was also revealed that the award show this time around, would be hosted by Aamina Sheikh and Mohib Mirza, both of whom, expressed their gratitude for being associated with such a mighty platform.
Zulfiqar Ramzi, owner of Star cinema in Saddar, also came up to the stage and raised a very important point by stating that the Pakistani cinema's downfall started from 16 December 1971, when East Pakistan got separated from us.
Saud and Adnan Shah also came to the stage and said that merit should be focused on and awards should be handed out to those who deserve it. Sahir Lodhi, however, came to the stage and said that Pakistani movies should be watched by everyone and we should come forward and support it.
Since Nigar is known for its authenticity and focus on merit, we can't wait to see what the prestigious jury will have to say about the plethora of movies hitting our screens this season. So, mark your calendars for 16th March 2017.
