I have been watching some episodes of this TV series:
CYCLE AROUND JAPAN - TV - NHK WORLD - English
As an avid cycling fan, it is quite enjoyable....but I am sure there is a lot there for every sort of viewer.
Its great if you are interested in the finer nuances of exploring Japanese culture....apparently the best Miso Udon is found around Gifu near Nagoya for example. Now I gotta go there next time I visit for sure!
I especially loved the Hokkaido episode....Corn + Horses + awesome Ainu Textiles/culture+Russian cultural exchange...it was a completely different revelation to me about a very different part of Japan is like. I must visit up there as well.
The lake Biwa episode was also phenomenal (I have been here at least some years back, but not so in depth as to cycle around it).
You will find some episodes on youtube/stream/etc from what I have seen so far (it popped up on eztv is how I came across it).
If NHK releases a bluray for this, I would buy it definitely....its that good.
