Are you sure you are not confusing it with the Rohtang tunnel? That was started in 2000 after the Kargil war, and is still incomplete.

Those terrains are very tough challanges .

But u have to appreciate that a difficult tunnel was completed in 6 years .
No one has mentioned the key reason why its completed. Because a well known private construction co. undertook the project... IL&FS.
Also India is coming to grips with TBMs with scores in use in different cities in India.

First of all i am happy that tunnel was completed.....and even mentioned that it would have provided us valuable lessons...however this is also a fact that our projects take forever to complete....so if someone says that a decade was taken just for feasibility studies and then only 5-6 years for project completions then i would say, well, the overall timeframe is still pathetic !!....
