No, why would the IAF buy C 17s then ?

Maybe the IAF will upgrade our existing IL 76s to a similar standard.

Mainly new and more powerful engines and avionics.

No such order will be placed. The IAF had looked at these but went to the yanks with the C-17s instead. The -476s do not appeal to the IAF IMHO. The issues with the IL-76s have left them scarred. The IAF is almost certain to operate a fleet of 20-25 C-17s which will be able to lift more than these IL-476s, land in areas the IL-476 could only dream of and will be more available (as a fleet) than any Russian transport could offer right now.

No bro, all IAF IL-76s will be replaced by the C-17s in this decade. Not a single one will see service beyond 2019/2020. They were given limited upgrades a few years back to keep them going for just another decade or so.

An updated version with a new glass cockpit, updated avionics and PS-90 engines.
