Indias Ministry of External Affairs has separated Bangladesh desk from a joint division dealing with four countries in what is seen as Dhaka's growing significance in Delhi's policy matrix.

Sripriya Ranganathan has already taken charge as the first Joint Secretary of the new division Bangladesh and Myanmar (BM).

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the other two countries Sri Lanka and Maldives of the old BSM division had been tagged with the Indian Ocean desk, which is now renamed SM&IOR division.

Apart from bilateral issues which are considerable, New Delhi sees Bangladesh along with Myanmar as key to its Look East policy.

Myanmar is now opened to the outside world for the first time in five decades.

Bangladeshs Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also aware of the new division that an official said came into effect soon after the Jan 5 elections.

Dhaka and Delhi relationships witnessed a new high in the last five years government led by Awami League.

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Pankaj Saran says said India enjoys historic relations with the League, though it always deals with the government of the day.

There had been extensive engagements between the two countries including visits of Prime Ministers and President in the last five years.

India, for the first time, rolled out $ 800 million line of credit for different projects and granted $ 200 million to Bangladesh, signalling its readiness to walk an extra mile for building relations.

The visa regime has been eased with bona fide businessmen getting five years multiple entries.

The two neighbours relationship has been deep-rooted as the two countries were part of one country before 1947 partition and enjoyed close bonds during the 1971 war of independence.

The High Commissioner in a recent interview said over the last forty years they had tried to build a relationship which is in a sense helpful to both India and Bangladesh.

But he admitted that there had been periods which had been good for the relationship and periods which were not so good.

He, however, said they wish the relationship with Bangladesh to proceed in a direction which is sustainable, durable, broad-based, and inclusive.

The new division will give the relationships a further boost, analysts believe, by giving it a new impetus.

It is not easy to create new divisions in a ministry which is usually starved of manpower.
Indian newspapers said the new foreign secretary Sujatha Singh effected the changes soon after she assumed charge.

The public diplomacy and external publicity were combined into one division , among the many changes effected by Singh.

Read and comprehend . Best of Luck .

Good move by India. Bangladesh and Myanmar becoming India's pivot in Look east policy is long due.

So, Sripriya Ranganathan is the de-facto PM of Bangladesh.. :yahoo::toast_sign:

So Hasina now be reports direct to Sripriya Ranganathan. The command and control channel existing has not been clear-cut. India is getting more organized in the squeeze.

it is wastage of money and useless effort .....Bangladeshi is never gonna to understand Indian support

If India is serious about its future we need to strengthen and established dedicated RAW units, India House, MEA units in each of the counties of the world as well as their annalist and departments in India.

So, Ms. Ranganathan will be working closely with Ms. Hasina to develop Bangaldesh and look after India's security concerns.
