Awareness drive for women to join police - DAWN.COM

PESHAWAR, Sept 4: The provincial police department has established ladies police mobile education units in all the regional headquarters to carry out briefing and education campaign for womenfolk in educational institutions and residential areas. The drive is aimed at encouraging women to join the police and serve humanity.

According to a circular issued by the central police office here on Wednesday, every lady police mobile education unit, comprising five officials and headed by a senior lady police officer, will be made operational from Sept 9.

Each mobile unit will chalk out its weekly tour programme after liaison with the administration of women educational institutions and local police one week in advance and work from Monday to Thursday from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

Every unit will carry safety and security materials and literature for distribution among the women. Each unit will be provided two vehicles; one for the unit and other for escort duty.

Selection of the in-charge and members of the unit will be made as per the required traits; education level, confidence in public dealing and speaking power. All members will go through a short refresher course of three days in the lines school on issues pertaining to this job.

It said that SP/DSP headquarters has been named as overall in-charge of the unit. These units will prove fruitful for creating awareness among the womenfolk and they will be offered jobs in women police. —Bureau Report

PESHAWAR: As part of the unfolding police reform agenda, women police mobile education units have been established in all regional police headquarters and will become functional from September 9.

Every unit will be headed by a senior lady police official and include four to five other members. The units aim to educate women about their rights and domestic violence, and inform them of the women complaint centres set up at police stations across the province. They can register complaints of any violence committed against them at the centres where female staffers will assist them.

“These units will inform the local police one week in advance about their scheduled visit to the area,” a police official told The Express Tribune. The units will visit education institutes, parks and homes and meet women to tell them how they can seek help in case of an emergency. “Each unit will be provided two vehicles and will be supervised by a senior police official,” said the official.

The scheme is part of the reforms introduced by the provincial government in the police department in the past three months, he said. “As a first step, we established women complaint centres in three police stations in Peshawar where lady police officials are available to help women register an FIR. Due to cultural sensitivities, it is very difficult for women to deal with the male staff at police stations.”

Women?s access to police stations being made easy - DAWN.COM

MANSEHRA, Sept 4: More women police constables are being inducted in Hazara police in order to provide the entire police services and due rights to women in the society and make their access to police stations easier anywhere in the division.

Deputy inspector general of police, Hazara range, Akhtar Hayat Gandapur said this while speaking at a press conference in Mansehra Press Club on Wednesday. He said that the government was giving due priority to solving problems being faced by the womenfolk.

Senior superintendent of police Abdul Ghafoor Afridi was also present on the occasion.

Mr Gandapur said that if needed women police stations would also be established in Mansehra and other parts of Hazara division.

He said that the police had banned renting out houses in six districts of Hazara until prior information of whereabouts of tenants was provided to them.

“We have also registered cases against several owners who rented out their houses without submitting prior information about the tenants. We are doing this because in most cases of subversive activities non-local people living in rented houses were found involved,” said the DIG.

He said that more police stations would be established in Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur districts. “We want to ensure an easy access to police by the complainants even in far-off areas of the division,” said Mr Gandapur. He claimed that honest officers were being posted on key posts and positions for prompt dispensation of justice.

Earlier speaking at a police darbar, Mr Gandapur lauded the sacrifices rendered by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police to get rid of terrorism and militancy. “You should be proud of your force and follow in the footsteps of those who sacrificed their lives for the sake of country and its people,” the DIG said while addressing the police officials.

He said that it was the foremost duty of police to protect life and property of people. He said that now better health services and treatment facilities would be given to policemen and officers at Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad and arrangements in this had been completed.

Some very good steps in right direction by PTI's KPK govt. with sense of urgency and seriousness towards these gender issues.
