Netizens have taken note of an advertisement that appeared in the press for the procurement of television for the official residence of the Lahore High Court Chief Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti.
A letter addressed to the LHC chief justice is circulating on social media in which the author raises questions about the procurement.
According to the advertisement placed in the press, the LHC CJ’s official residence in GOR-I requires a 75-inch LED TV screen.
“With a big security of Rs17,500 being about three percent of the cost…it is being estimated by the CJ’s office that the TV would cost around Rs575,000,” Qais M Hussain, the author of the letter notes.
Hussain further wrote, “Sir, do you honestly believe that our poor country and taxpayers can bear this expense for the pleasure of your viewing programmes on a 75-inch LED TV which I am sure would have all the Smart Features too.”
The author of the letter calculated the total salary the CJ of Lahore High Court is currently entitled to, which includes perks like cars, free utilities and domestic help. The salary amounts to Rs1,050,538.
“Every enjoyment of elite life is free to the CJ,” the letter notes.
The author of the letter has also offered to pitch in Rs10,000 for the fundraising effort for the new TV, and added that he has also asked his friends to also do the same. In the meantime, however, the author asked the Registrar’s office to withdraw the ad for procurement.
