Nehruvian Blunders!!!!

In his view, the "dereliction of duty showed by the making of maps that omitted huge chunks of Indian territory was a Nehru-era mistake that calls for immediate rectification".
The biggest of the blunders by omitting Indian territory from its claim was made not in the east, but in North West. Not taking Gilgit-Baltistan seriously and the complete failure to realize the strategic importance of this region are the biggest blunders Nehru could ever made.

I am against putting entire blame on Nehru for that...... Yes he was the PM that time, But the strategic importance has to explained to him by his colleagues or those guys who knows it.... During that period he had several other priorities in his mind.... But yes it was a blunder committed by his government....

Mountbatten had immense influence on him. It was Dicky who told Nehru to stop Indian airforce from attacking Pakistani transport planes flying to Northern areas. Americans believed that accession of Maharaja to Indian dominion remains valid as long as the general mass does not throw us out through a plebiscite. It automatically implied that Northern areas too belong to India. But the moment Nehru agreed to ceasefire the Americans slowly took away their support. He might not be the sole culprit for the whole series of blunders as his most able generals too made similar blunders by omitting Gilgit from a map while showing it to Mountbatten, but as a head of state Nehru faces most of the criticism.
