it should not take a year and a half to decide the selection of an engine..the speed at we r procuring new systems r absolutely pathetic and now is getting worse,( leaving apart from a few systems n weaponry ordering and arriving on time) but again if we look at the whole selection process then there are two possibilities
1)we just select any random engine/aircraft/tank/artillery/warships/refuellers etc
or
2)issue the RFP's and the whole painstaking process continues.right from the performance,technical evaluation,shortlisting,bidding and then ordering
both have there good and bad points
for point 1 there will be allegations of kickbacks n bribary n favouring a country than the other
and,
for point 2 there will be time consumption and compromise of security of a country
the whole point of the post is considering the urgency required for the equipment we should place the ordere like the mmrca should have been placed way before as tejas was not ready and mig 21's were coming down as shooting stars and same goes for the artillery just my view..feel free to disagree
