BEIJING: The Chinese contractor building mega Neelum-Jhelum Hydro power plant has decided to deploy more engineers, technical staff to expedite work on 969 MW project.

In this connection, Vice-President of the China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGC) Deng held talks in Beijing with Pakistani side and briefed about deployment of additional Chinese technical staff.

The induction of additional work force will help completion of the project before given timetable.
The meeting was held after conclusion of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif's visit to China.

While travelling on High-Speed Train from Beijing to Shanghai (July 6), the Prime Minister had held meeting with Executive President of the CGGC Yang Yisheng and got briefing on the progress of work on the hydro power project.

The company President had informed Prime Minister that it was expected to accomplish the project in June 2016. However, in view of the acute energy crisis, Pakistan wants that the mega hydro project needed to be completed before given time frame.

Before embarking on visit to China, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif last month visited the site of the project and directed the authorities concerned to expedite construction work on Rs 274.882 billion Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project and make it functional until 2014-15 to overcome power shortage in the country.

The Prime Minister during his 5-day official visit to China met with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang as well as number of Chinese companies working in energy, infrastructure development, power distribution and financial institutions and discussed with them on energy shortfall being faced by Pakistan and its remedies.

The Prime Minister met the heads and Chief Executive officers of various companies in all the three cities he visited --- Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Timely completion of this project will reduce the gap between demand and supply of power in the country. Moreover, it has strategic importance as due to its timely and early completion the government of Pakistan can claim water rights of river Neelum.

The project which is in the vicinity of Muzaffarabad (Azad Kashmir), envisages the diversion of Neelum river water through a tunnel and after producing power, out-falling into Jhelum river.

So now instead of June 2016, when is the projected expected to be completed?

I guess in late 2015 ...

I am pretty sure that we wont be having any loadshedding this winter because of additional 3,000 mw

If India completes its dam before Pakistan completes the dam on Neelum-Jhelum river then we will be able to extracts maximum benefits in terms of design and size of the dam. The case is pending in the arbitration court and we are hoping we will get the favorable opinion. If you guys work harder and faster before India does then you will have a say in the arbitration court that our dam will impact your dam down stream...hence the race is on.

We need to focus on this project and complete it as soon as possible. It was pending since 1980s and now when the construction work is begin, we keep hearing new dates again n again. I hope they put extra workforce and try to complete this dam by the end of next year.

Aameen

What are the projections for the work on your dam to be completely by?

If Pakistan really needs to emerge as a regional economic strong hold like our politicians claim, we should be making atleast 20,000 mw of electricity in surplus. Pak should be making atleast 50,000 of electricity. Electricity from nuclear plants should be the way to go as you can generate thousands of megawatts of electricity this way.

Kishenganga is expected to be completed in mid-2016 ...

Lets see who finishes first ..... Ours is expected to be completed in late 2014 or early 2015. Work has been accelerated .. :yay:

I think they should take Japanese/Korean or Germen help in setting up turbines to make it 100% efficient with latest technology in it.

Thats not true. As soon as economy gets energy, it will start to expand. The max shortfall reached was that around 8000MV. So we need 11-13000MV in the system to ensure smooth economic growth without the drag of load shedding.
