laiqs windows in Pakistan is I guess 6000/- plus!!

worst on Linux is it works but drivers are the main problem..

.
Vista sucks man, go for windows 7 if not then xp is a better choice.

Not correct, Vista SP2 is very stable OS, XP also sucked before SP2.

@ DesiGuy - Core of Vista, Win7 is same. 7 has awesome integrated drivers library. Install x64 version. Go ahead and do clean install of 7 from Pen drive.

.
I do have window 7.

but the problem is that his PC doesn't support other than vista OS. when i searched drivers on the website, the website has only drivers for vista OS. No drivers for xp or win 7, so i don't wanna install other OS and end up having to drivers for that OS. :)

Right click on driver setup file, choose properties. Then click on "Run this program in compatibility mode" and select appropriate OS.

Vista Home Premium is very slow. Win 7 is better, atleast in speed.

Install Ubuntu OS on that computer, PC brand and year of production?
personally I won't go for it but he might like it. You can download and Install ubuntu from usb.

Ah Dell exactly the model name/number..

desiguy pm I'll give you link perhaps you might get drivers. Believe me I've fixed some 10 years old computers of my neighbor. The hardest was to find sound.
Also check this website eBay Classifieds (Kijiji) - Post & Search Free Local Classified Ads.
if your state/city is mentioned people sell original windows for cheap.

It's emachines desktop , model # t3642.

eMachines Support: Support Documents

When you put model #, it only shows drivers for vista.

I do not know where you are getting this from, but then again read what you wrote.

How can Microsoft/OEM not have drivers for Xp or 7 but have it for Vista?

You can search for drivers on other websites. Not only on OEM webpage.

Which OEM is this? That might be useful to know.

For your thread question, you cannot install Vista on another computer if you didn't have the cd.

How ever you can try one thing. Ask a friend of yours (Not the same friend, i mean anyone with a vista cd) who does have the same Vista like Home premium, Professional, 32bit/64bit etc etc. Then use his cd to install Vista. When prompted for CD key, enter the one that you took off your friend's pc.

Good Luck!

It's emachines desktop model#t3642.

eMachines Support: Support Documents

if you go on this website, and chose the right model, it does shows drivers, but only for vista.

Desiman...
Try to installing Windows XP as dual boot, BUT first install Vista on a drive and update with install all drivers, and then XP on D or whatever designated Drive, must not be installed on primary Drive where Vista is installed. I am guessing it will work that is XP, sasta tareeka.

Second choice. If there is Vista OS is already installed and PC is updated with drivers if not Install Vista, Important note down Sound, Graphics, Ethernet specifications Models going to the device properties, and independently find their drivers from vendors website.
Alternatively write down those specs/models of sound/graphic/Ethernet and we'll search the driver compatible with XP.

Desiman.
Here is XP Driver for Nvidia GeForce 6100 for E-Machine T3642
download link below.

Most Likely your motherboard will update drivers while connected to the internet so I won't be worried about it. Just hit update Windows XP.

Check if the sound is Realtek, If it is or not some other then first step is write down its company and model if its not there and is says audio then completely update Windows will SP3 and reboot, same goes for Ethernet. And then let me know I've something for like hundreds of drivers for Modems/Ethernet/Graphics/Audio etc.

There is no easy way.

About second choice.

the pc is currently running vista on it. so you mean i should go to device manager and than write down all that. btw,is there a way i can copy all the drivers from somewhere to flash drive and than install fresh copy of new vista or perhaps xp on it, and it should work. ? because since it's running vista right now, i should be able to copy drivers to my flash drive.

Linux Mint would be much better choice, Ubuntu gives trouble for drivers.

About drivers for Vista, once installed, drivers can be easily searched/installed through net. The sites for intel/amd or motherboard manufacturer would provide driver search facility.

Yep go to Device Manager and write down Graphic Card or Integrated chip and its Model although graphic problem is solved I've given you the link.

In Device Manager, Write down
For Audio/Sound
For Ethernet Network Adapter (seems realtek)
For Mainboard (if you don't find the info hardway is open casing and check on the motherboard otherwise first try other options)

No I think drivers are already installed they've sub files installed all over in System 32 folders its impossible to copy them.

Dell ships preactivated Vista / Windows 7 which does not require a CD KEY.
Technically speaking it is illegal to move an OEM license to another machine. This is due to the licensing aggrements between Microsoft and hardware OEM. They are provied at highly discounted bulk price to each oem. Therefore technically you own the PC and have rights to use the installed windows, the actual license of OS remains the hardware OEM therefore you have no right to reassign them somewhere else.

Its complicated to explain but technical the above should do enough. However in the real world people do what benefits them and nobody falls far such legality clauses.
