NDTV: FLYING THE RAFALE (VIDEO)

. . . .
awesome video , rafale is indeed one of the best .

India you guys have a wonderful omni role fighter, with this addition your airforce will be the leading AF in Asia.

Trust me this is a good investment and futher cements the friendship between our countries, thank you guys for making this purchase.
france has always been a friend of india after 1947 , even is bad days.

.
Yes we have built a great friendship, and we are making it stronger in a lot of civilian fields as well. A friend who is a police office in France told me that.they are training about 500 Indian police cadets in forensics and criminal intelligence, do you guys know anything about this?

Police cadets ??? Hardly. Might be newly formed NSA guies. But they are already well trained in the field of forensic and criminal intelligence. May be part of some experience and knowledge sharing programme. No news here though.

Indians are investing in air-power like no other. It is a good sign for India , but comes with alot of corruption , wastage , and kickbacks etc.

India's main rival , Pakistan , is investing more in ground and nuclear strike forces. A wonderful strategy to build a powerful military capability.

It'd be interesting to see how Pakistan builds its air power in the region by replacing old fleet with new jointly produced JF-17 Thunders. As far as Rafael in concerned , PAF will most likely go for J-10Bs from China and will upgrade its existing fleet of F-16s to the level of lethal F-16 block 52/52+ armed with deadly weapons such as AIM-120C etc.

Air power is an important component of war and both Pakistan and India knows it.

BTW , where will India deploy its Rafaels? Against Pakistan? India already deploys its most power aircrafts , Su-30MKIs and upgraded Mig-29s , against Eastern border of Pakistan along India.

Deploying Rafaels in North against China doesn't make sense....

. .
Care to explain ???

There is NO WAY two things can happen ;

1) A full-fledged war (or even a prolonged skirmish) between India and China.
2) Indian victory in Air against the massive Chinese Air Power.

So why deploy your best weapon there? Major threat to India comes from the lands of Muslim-Majority Pakistan (as it always happened throughout history. Islamic Invaders came through these lands to plunder , destroy , conquer India etc). Now , a war or small military campaign with Pakistan is a possibility. So deploying your premier weapon against China doesn't make sense.

I sense that majority of India's air power will be deployed against PAF as it is the case today.

First MMRCA squadron to be based in Ambala

By Ritu Sharma | ENS - NEW DELHI

22nd October 2012 10:11 AM

The first squadron of the 126 air dominance Medium Multi-role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA), to be purchased under the $10.2 billion mammoth deal, will be based in Ambala in Haryana, which was attacked by Pakistan in both 1965 and 1971 wars. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has already zeroed in on the French Rafale fighter jets as its choice and presently the cost negotiations are on. The contract is expected to be signed by the end of the financial year.

“The IAF plans to station the first squadron of the Rafale at Ambala,” a top IAF official said. Ambala is presently home to the British-built Jaguars and MiG-21s. Prior to the induction, the Ambala airbase - one of the oldest and largest airbases inherited from the Royal Air Force - will undergo refurbishment of the runway and infrastructure building to accommodate the new war birds that are expected to join the IAF’s inventory in 2017. The plans are to base two squadrons of the MMRCAs in Western Air Command (WAC) bordering Pakistan and two squadron in the Eastern Air Command (EAC) bordering China,” the official added.

One of the biggest open tender defence deals of present times, the MMRCA’s value is likely to go up to $20 billion. After the contract negotiations are over there will be eight more stages left - four of which lie with the Defence Ministry. There will be “scrutiny” by Defence Finance and independent monitors of Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). Then the deal will go to Finance Ministry, from there to National Security Council (NSC) and Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).

The WAC had recently inducted a squadron of frontline fighter jets Sukhoi Su-30MKI in Halwara, Punjab. With MiG-21s and MiG-27s scheduled to be phased out in the coming years and MiG-29s undergoing an upgrade programme, the IAF needs to bolster its assets in the region. The force is soon going to induct another Su-30MKI squadron in the command followed by the Rafales.

The IAF has also undertaken massive deployment and upgradation programme in the Eastern sector - keeping in view the modernisation done by China on its side of the border. The force has already inducted two squadrons of the Su-30MKIs, it is upgrading many of the runways and advanced landing grounds in the region and intends to station the two squadrons of the yet-to-be-acquired Rafales to keep a rising and more assertive China at bay.

Yeah , near Pakistani border. Ambala Air Base was attacked by PAF in both previous wars ....

See , I was right. It makes sense. Indian planners know where their greatest threat comes from....

And who told you they are our rivals ever since WOT started? Our last rival status with them ended in 1999 when the US stopped handling their economy and 7 years later when Musharaf's regime collapsed. They are at the most now an estranged neighbor to us or say a nuisance to peace. But rival and enemy are a little hard to digest.

Deploying Rafaels in North against China doesn't make sense....

It is Rafale (gust of wind) not Rafael (biblical name) firstly. Secondly, MKIs and Rafales in Chinese borders make 10 times more sense than deploying them on a border from where only non-state actors will come rather than an invading army.

There is NO WAY two things can happen ;

1) A full-fledged war (or even a prolonged skirmish) between India and China.

Agreed. At the most there can be some tensions due to war-wariness of both countries but no war.

2) Indian victory in Air against the massive Chinese Air Power.

Are you kidding me? Quantity won't get either side anywhere. PLAAF's training is also ambiguous. We cannot keep our air force a hostage to communist propaganda of "perfection and supremacy". If there is a need, IAF will be deployed to strike with impunity regardless of who the enemy is.

What for? The only threats that come from pakistan are non-state actors who fancy going to heaven by killing unarmed innocent civilians rather than show some courage to fight a trained army because a decade ago they got their rears whopped by the army.

What will Rafales do against them?

.
Yeah , near Pakistani border. Ambala Air Base was attacked by PAF in both previous wars ....

India is deploying the frontline Su 30 mkis in bases near china border.

.
Yeah , near Pakistani border. Ambala Air Base was attacked by PAF in both previous wars ....

See , I was right. It makes sense. Indian planners know where their greatest threat comes from....

As pointed out above, the only threat from Pakistan are rag tag militants and terrorists. Their army won't dare to wage an open war against India. They haven't dared since 1971, when we cut them into two. India's military superiority is unbridgeable, and Pakistani planners know this.

On the other hand, we need these rafales and MKIs along the Chinese border so that China won't find it easy to do any skirmishes with India. Rafales and MKIs are superior to anything that China has in its arsenal CURRENTLY. We will strive to keep this qualitative edge over them in future, to numb their quantitative edge. Although the first two squadrons will face Pakistan (since a lot of migs there have to be retired), the next squadrons will go to the Chinese border.

And by the way, rafales in Ambala can strike both countries. And in times of war, they can be shifted to whichever FOBs they want, against china or pak. You being a Pakistani are simply trying to make your country sound more important than it is.
