Navy says no to second hand warships

There is no proposal to induct used or old warships from foreign country into the Indian Navy, Defence Minster Manohar Parrikar informed the Lok Sabha today.

“Indian Navy is inducting Ships, Submarine, and other equipment in accordance with the Maritime Capability Perspective Plan (MCPP) and Long term Integrated Perspective Plan (LTIPP),” Mr Parrikar said in a written reply.

They why not Buy 2 Mistral LHDs from France and order another 2 and also make up a deal for 4 LPDs from EU too. Make in India is not good quality so better is to buy directly.

Those 2 Mistrals are having Azimuthal Thrusters for its propulsion systems, not the conventional propeller and shaft system. And Indian Navy wants the conventional one. So there is no chance for these 2 Mistrals, but in future when Indian Navy goes for LHDs, Mistrals would be one of the frontrunners.

Then surely GCC's new Navy will buy it and will order another 2 of them and hopefully 4 LPDs too.

Tell me along with pictures HD the available LHDs and LPDs from EU and US market for GCC.

Well IN could buy these 2 as of now and the rest 2 as per Navy's requirements right, they're already modified by french... these two are available now why loose the opportunity. ? we can worry about the maintenance later its bit for difficult than the usual propulsion system not impossible .... navy need to learn to cease the opportunities. because of this they already let down the underwater capabilities

Currently there are 48 ships and submarines under construction and all of them in Indian shipyards. Navy works relentlessly on indigenisation. Project 75I is ought to be Indian Navy's last import order under ToT after which all of the warships and submarines will be fully indigenous in make.

Only Indian shipyards partnered with an international shipyard can participate in the programme. The Indian Navy is yet to select a design which meets its specification.

Domestic tender to three domestic shipyards has been issued - Larsen & Toubro (L&T) which has tied up with Navantia of Spain, Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering which has partnered with France’s DCNS, and ABG Shipyard which has partnered with USA's Alion. After the winning design is selected, the private shipyard will construct two LPDs and the remaining two will be constructed by state-owned Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL).

Well france finished modifying the Mistral as per IN requirements, its the navy that should reply now... and you know wind doesn't always blow in our way, need to catch the opportunity man. How many years it takes to build 2 of those, 4-6??? we can easily save all these years and add a new capability to the IN... it'll be foolish to let this go

No.. but i think someone might have raised the plan, then Navy right away said no... but that's nothing to do with the Mistral.. these are unused.

Mistrals are too small according to the QR floating around by IN.Personally I prefer Juan Carlos over mistral as they are STOVL capable too.If IN goes for F35C for INS Vishal,then it would make sense to place a couple F35B on our amphibious warships for CAS operation.

Dude the ones they build for Russia is 24-26k ton same as juan class. you've a point there, we can put naval version of tejas mk2 on them... F35b highly doubtful.. its costlier than c version, expensive to maintain. any how we'll have lca and can be added in more numbers since they r small

Tejas MK2 is a STOBAR aircraft.It cannot operate from a such a small runway.But if GOI want to go for indigenisation,then downsized version of IAC-1 seems like a credible option too.

You are forgetting that Juan class flight deck has ski jump ramp which does give her advantage over mistral class..


On Topic may be they are talking about SIROCO a Foudre Class LPD.. of French Navy..Commissioned in 1998 and retired from French Navy last month due to budget cuts...30 years younger then INS jalashwa that IN purchased from America in 2007...
