Vice-Admiral Satish Soni, Commanding in Chief of the Southern Naval Command, inaugurated a seminar on Advances in Sonar Concepts, Engineering and Technologies (Ascent II), organised at NPOL in connection with the National Science Day Celebrations.
The objective of the seminar is to showcase the new developments at NPOL in Sonar Science and Engineering in the last few years.
Inaugurating the seminar, Admiral Soni emphasised the need for being technologically ahead to equip the Navy with the best technologies and to be self-reliant in Sonar systems.
He pointed at the expanding horizons in naval warfare in the Indian Ocean.
S Anantha Narayanan, Distinguished Scientist and director, NPOL, pointed out that the colloquium is an opportunity for interaction and exchange of ideas between NPOL scientists, users, industry partners for synergetic action in future. A total of 23 technical papers are presented by NPOL scientists at the seminar.
Delegates from various units of the Indian Navy, Keltron and Cochin University of Science and Technology are attending the seminar.
A Unnikrishnan, associate director of NPOL also spoke.
