ISLAMABAD: Cross-border flow into Afghanistan is hampering the campaign to crush the Taliban and the Pak-Afghan border is a joint responsibility, Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations Major General Athar Abbas said.
Nato, therefore, must participate in putting an end to the cross-border flow, Abbas said.
There are now 821 Pakistan Army checkpoints on the border and only 112 Afghan Army or Nato posts, he said.
Pakistan has rapidly expanded its presence along the Pak-Afghan border, which crosses mountains and deserts, after years of complaints from Nato that it was not doing enough to stop Taliban and Al-Qaeda fighters from finding a safe haven in its territory.
Officials have also proclaimed the success of military operations in the semi-autonomous territories dominated by Pashtun tribes that have sheltered the Taliban in the past.
But a senior official conceded that the army had not set a date to launch military operations in North Waziristan. DawnNews
