In a nationwide crackdown, the NIA on Saturday arrested 8 more ISIS sympathisers. The remaining five were arrested on Friday. This development comes in wake of the impending visit of French President Francois Hollande on January 26.

The suspected ISIS sympathisers were arrested after raids in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Delhi and Uttarakhand. NIA sources said the arrested suspects are believed to have been radicalised by ISIS propaganda material.

According to sources, internet conversations show the terrorists were planning to set up a training camp.
Materials used to assemble improvised explosive device (IEDs) were recovered from Hyderabad, Mumbai and Uttarakhand, the sources added.

According to sources, the detained suspects were planning to carry out simultaneous attacks across the country. The central agencies feared the possibility of a Paris or Jakarta-style terror attack.

The arrest of six suspected terrorists in Karnataka comes days after the arrest of a madrassa teacher from Bengaluru for suspected links with al-Qaeda.

The office of the Consulate General of France also received a threat letter against French President Francois Hollande's proposed visit to India on the occasion of the Republic Day. Among those arrested, four were from Bengaluru, one from Tumkuru and one was from Hubballi.

In Delhi, police has issued an alert after the driver of a taxi hired by three unidentified persons from Pathankot was found dead in Kangra district in Himachal Pradesh. The taxi driver, identified as Vijay Kumar, a resident of Gaggal village in Kangra district, was found dead on Wednesday at the Kalta bridge in Kangra and his taxi was missing.

The alert was issued in the backdrop of the attack on IAF base in Pathankot where terrorists had first killed a cab driver and robbed his car before launching the strike.

Indian Mujahideen now returns as ISIS; NIA arrests 6 radicals

NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: The arrest of six youths by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday marked the return of a faction of Indian Mujahideen (IM) under the banner of Islamic State (IS), the global outfit that has so far attracted more than two dozen Indians. The arrest comes days ahead of the French president Francois Hollande visit to India for republic day.

NIA sleuths said that those arrested were radicalised online by 29-year-old Mohammad Shafi Armar alias Yousuf, a native of Bhatkal who runs Ansar-ul-Tawhid (AuT), formed in 2012 by IM militants who fled from Indian in 2008. His elder brother Moulana Abdul Khader Sultan was killed last year at Syria-Turkey border fighting for IS.

In 2013, Shafi was also instrumental in recruiting three engineering students, Mohd Mahruf, Mohd Waqar Azhar and Shaquib Ansari from Rajasthan. He then used a codename Atta Bhatkal. Investigators have identified 18 youths so far who have been recruited by Shafi using online platform. This time he used a codename Yousuf.

Those arrested were identified as Mudabbir Mushtaq Shaikh, a resident of Mumbra in Kalyan who was described as emir of the group.

He has been in touch with Shafi alias Yousuf for past 2 years.

A web developer, Mushtaq was presently working part time and has floated a outfit in the name of Junood-Al-Khalifa-e-Hind, which had similar ideologies that of ISIS. ATS officials said that thirtythree year-old Mushtaq was given the task of carrying out attacks in India. During the raids, Triacetone Triperoxide (TATP) an explosive similar to the one used in Paris attackers was seized in large quantities.

Along with TATP a complete manual instruction on how to assemble explosives was found in his home. Photos and maps of various streets in Mumbai, Maharashtra and outside the state were also found along with more than 50 SIM cards. Among the photos and maps were of defence installations and Airports. A huge number of cash in Indian rupees was also recovered from Mushtaq.

"We have also recovered a lot of literature which is in Arabic which we will soon be translating. Judging by the cash and the explosives and the SIM cards, it is clear that they were on the verge of planning some-thing big and could have been one of the first terror attacks by ISIS on Indian soil." said an ATS official on condition of anonymity.

The others were identified as Mohammad Nafees Khan (24), Mohammad Shareef Mounuddin Khan (54), both resident of Hyderabad, Najmul Huda (25), a native of Mangalore, Mohd Afzal (33), a resident of Bangalore and Abu Anas (24), a native of Lucknow. According to investigators, Shafi alias Yousuf has transferred Rs 6 lakhs to these suspects which was to be used to carry out any subversive attacks in India.

NIA officials said eight more have been detained for their affiliations with the group and is being questioned regarding their involvement. According to their disclosure, the group has also identified a place for conducting arms and explosive training in Maharashtra and Karanataka.

"They have been under the radar for past few months. When we came to know that they are in the process of procuring explosive material and weapons, we arrested them."

French investigators should ask to share some info on TATP explosives found in this case particularly where its being produced, how its being transported, who provided the chemical methodology for such explosive production safely..
It may open the door of understanding how ISIS is getting it and can help in averting such crisis again.

I thought madarrassa as a sort board meeting where they discuss about their life.
