NATIONAL ANTHEM OF PAKISTAN

(Tune by Ahmed Ghulam ali Chagla)

When Pakistan was created in 1947, the country did not have any

national anthem. Then, in late 1949, it was announced that the late

Shah of Iran was to pay a state visit to Pakistan (the first by any

foreign head of state). It was then that Ahmed Ghulam ali Chagla was

approached by the National Anthem Committee of the Government of

Pakistan to compose the tune for the National Anthem - which he did,

and it was played for the first time at the Governor-General's House in

Karachi during the Shah's visit on March 1, 1950! He (Mr. Chagla) did

not accept any monetary award for this service to the nation. The

words of the National Anthem were subsequently composed by Hafiz

Jallundhuri. Unfortunately he did not live to see his tune to be

officially adopted as the National Anthem of Pakistan in 1954 (until

then the Government of Pakistan had to seek his permission and,

subsequent to his death, the permission of his heirs) to play the

National Anthem on any occasion (including the first official visit to

U.S.A. by late Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan). Finally, in 1996, the

Government of Pakistan recognized his service and posthumously bestowed

upon him the President's Pride of Performance award. Mr. A.K Chagla

(Son fo Mr. Ahamd Ghulam Ali Chagla) had gone to Washington D.C. to

personally receive this award, on his behalf, from the Ambassador of

Pakistan at the Pakistan Day celebration held on March 23, 1997.

Thank You very much brother for your compliments,

I was so upset to see not much coming up on PDF in the last couple of days, then i thought why not come up with something which may catch the interest of everyone, which should not trigger hatred, and which should be informative also.

so i came up with this idea to start this thread where anyone can participate, post information about his/her nation and specially the very basic information which we usually miss, forexample, most of the people know that our national anthem was written by "ABU-UL-ASAR (HAFEEZ JALANDHARI)" but very few people knew who composed it, when it was composed and approved, when it was first played etc.

i am sure we'd learn alot here and share a lot of stuff with eachother....Thanx...:pakistan::tup:

Thou are the ruler of the minds of all people, dispenser of India's destiny.

The name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sind, Gujurat and Maratha. Of the Dravid and Orissa and Bengal.

It Echoes in the hills of Vindhyas and Himalayas, mingles in the music of Yamuna and Ganga and is chanted by the waves of the Indian Sea.

They pray for your blessing and sing thy praise. The salvation of all peaople is thy hand, thou dispenser of India's destiny. Victory, Victory, Victory to thee.

"Bhagwa or the saffron colour denotes renunciation or disinterestedness. Our leaders must be indifferent to material gains and dedicate themselves to their work. The white in the centre is light, the path of truth to guide our conduct. The green shows our relation to (the) soil, our relation to the plant life here, on which all other life depends. The "Ashoka Chakra" in the centre of the white is the wheel of the law of dharma. Truth or satya, dharma or virtue ought to be the controlling principle of those who work under this flag. Again, the wheel denotes motion. There is death in stagnation. There is life in movement. India should no more resist change, it must move and go forward. The wheel represents the dynamism of a peaceful change."

The original sandstone-sculpted Lion Capital of Ashoka preserved at Sarnath Museum. The 'chakra' on the flag derives from this ancient monument.
