Yes it can see billion of years in the past

Just like we can see 8 mins in the past by looking at the sun(light takes 8min to reach us)

Also the nearest star is over 4 years...so even a ship flying at lightspeed isn't going to help much.

I have been waiting for this launch for a long time . I was actually nervous that it might fail since it went through so many difficulties . Glad to see all went well.
This is a great leap for mankind as a while not just the US /E.U. Will be good to see the discoveries this telescope will reveal to us all.

Hey remember the Chinese members here saying NASA doesn't do anything great anymore.

Everybody knows NASA is at the forefront of space tech and they have been for a while now. Those Chinese who say that know that themselves deep down, it's just ultra nationalism that makes them say such things . It's normal on this site. So get use to it

China has 4 meter diameter telescope. There are telescope of wide angle, far infrared, deep ultraviolet (uv), and many other kinds.

Webb is so far the best of the best in its category.

Where is the Chinese data and why cannot even a beggar in Johannesburg get access to it as he can from Hubble.
