Nasa scientists find evidence of flowing water on Mars

. .
If there's any evidence of life, all possible human mission to Mars will come to a stand still in the fear of contamination with the environment.

But such a discovery would give a solid evidence for the idea that the universe is full of life...if there could be life in two planets of one small solar system, think how many could be out there...it will only give a major boost to space exploration.

I remember an incident, when a NASA satellite was encircling a moon of Jupiter, and they had confirmed proof of the presence of water on its subsurface. NASA deliberately destroyed that satellite by changing its trajectory towards Jupiter, and eventually the heat and pressure of Jupiter destroyed the satellite. To prevent contamination with its environment.

Now, consider a manned mission, where the level of contamination is many times higher. Even though the presence of alien life will be far more interesting from scientific point of view, but that will hinder manned missions to these planets.

i really dont believe that humans will establish stations on any planet in near future. terraforming is the only way which is a very long process, can take millennia. and even that will start only after more than 500 years when technology is advanced enough.

Are you sure? Or any theory? Any link?

Looking at the perspective of the lifetime of a organism, 500 years is more like the blink of an eye. If human race can effectively spread out in the solar system in a self sustainable way in the next 500 years, that would be an immense achievement.

i said terraforming will start only after aleast 500 years not that humans will spread to other planets within 500 years. i am of the opinion that humans should not try to physically go to other planets themselves. first they should make their robots advanced enough and then leave the preparatory work to them. thats why i said nothing special will happen on other planets within 500 years.

Limited Human civilization can be started within geodesic domes, with self sufficiency in agricultural and oxygen, water requirements, yet critically dependent on the home planet for technology. And yes, Robots will reach first to make the habitat before humans.

but today's robots are so primitive. useless for alteration of other planets. only good for taking photos.

everything you use in everyday life is made by robots.

@Armstrong I have this theory: I think that extraterrestrials do exist, but in a different spectrum of light. Therefore, we might not be able to see them. It's just like jinns. Jinns are just a different spectrum of light so they are not visible to the human eye because human eyes are limited to certain types of lights. So, I think scientists have the wrong approach and need to open their minds to the different possibilities. But then again, this is just an idea I have been entertaining. What do you think?!

Visible light itself is just a part of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Electromagnetic waves are just photons vibrating at different frequencies. Using our naked eyes, we see only a limited range of electromagnetic waves which we call visible light. To "see" the rest of the spectrum, there's complex machinery (radars, cameras etc) which can see other frequencies of the spectrum.

Scientists have not just looked at mars (and the rest of the universe) in the visible spectrum, they've looked at it through everything in hopes of finding something interesting.

it requires a bit of mathematical acumen, but after studying this book you will understand better what i am saying.

will take you many many levels above your current discovery channel education level on robotics.

Just looked it up on wikipedia....I've studied many of the concepts in the book (I know binary search algorithms, different sorting algorithms, data structures, trees; studied different types of trees, don't remember their names)...

But what does that have to do with the fact that I think robots ARE advanced enough ?

now we only need to find oil there so USA can take democracy there ....
