Also note population density is around 250 v 390
 
Pretty impressive change in India over 4-5 years ,especially some parts of North India and South India...I see the south, especially Tamil nadu is becoming more and more bright by the year ...

Seems like Eastern region in India improved a lot in last 4 years
Yes...spread of the eastern cities like vizag was blocked by eastern ghats...unlike the western ghats they are close to the coast!!
 
Time difference may be key here.

Photo at 11 PM and photo at 2 AM (night also) makes the difference.

Is the timing of both photos the same?
Probably NO.

So don't count your chickens before they are hatched.

Even the Bangkok is better illuminated in 2016 than 2012. Does it means that it was in shambles in the year 2012?
Hell no!

Of course there is new construction in 4 years.
But that is another angle.

the whole world at night at the same time?????probably sun was powered off due to load shedding.
