India has SU-30 and MIG-29 and Mirage 2000 still buying Rafale. USA has and produces F-16 and F-15 and F-18 and few others and also Russia and many other countries.

Apples and Oranges, F-16, a forty year old tried, tested and battle proven platform with a well established nucleus within the PAF, JF-17 albeit very potent but relatively new platform which will mature over coming years.
Besides acquiring F-16s has instantly given boast to PAF's strength and capability where as inducting and making operational a squadron of JF-17s takes a few years.

Used F-16s don't need to have a wait time....they come ready and can be absorbed very very quickly. JF-17 on the other hand is restricted by its production rate. So it is better to have jets now than later.

JF-17 is a strategical aquisition, its not better than the F-16. But if the US stops supplying parts the falcon is grounded while the thunder keeps flying, thats why its being bought, not because its better than the F-16.

Actually, if you were to ask the PAF right now, they'd like no other fighter of it's capability but the JF-17. The ability to produce and operate them on our own, upgrade them at will is something no other aircraft out there gives us. It is unprecedented capability, and separates Pakistan from most other countries who don't have anywhere near this level of comfort.

Don't forget the majority of the Israeli, Egyptian and the Turkey vipers are old blocks. still in service.
