Musharraf paid no taxes on over Rs 4.4m income, FBR tells ECP

Presence within Pakistan is not a requirement to file taxes, and being abroad is no exemption. Having income sources within Pakistan definitely is the requirement, and Gen Musharraf does have incomes sources and assets within Pakistan, Sir.

Pakistanis staying abroad for more than a certain number of days are considered earning outside Pakistan (OPs), hence the exemption.

But it is true, income and property in Pakistan is subject to taxation under the law.

Gen Musharraf has both income and property within Pakistan, Sir.

you need to prove his income in the first place, your allegations may have no ground reality and that he is required to file tax return

I mentioned at least three sources: His Army pension, his farmhouse in Chak Shehzad and his allocated lands. There are other sources too, but let's start with these three, Sir.

and sir what i said is you need to prove these sources and the income from them, what if the tax was deducted and he didnt file tax return.

his real income is not in pakistan he earns from his business overseas and his lectures in universities, again not in pakistan

you need to prove that he gets income from so called rented properties(which i didnt know of) and income from his farm house, you need to give the exact details

Actually Sir, it is Gen Musharraf who has the burden of proof, considering that he is the one running for election, not me.

What a stupid news article.

Next, Federal Board of Revenue will be demanding taxes from King Abdullah, Xi Jinping and Manmohan Singh.

Have these gentlemen filed their nomination papers, and if so, for which seats, please?

People need to be paying taxes while in work not just those people who stand up for elections.

Are Former Army Chiefs and Former Presidents of Pakistan required to or eligible to pay taxes? Do people have to pay taxes after their retirement?

In Muslim Pakistan, when an Army Chief retires, he gets pensionary benefits worth Rs 400 to 500 million. Is that taxable.

Interesting questions, but off topic Sir.

This election is being held under rules imposed by the Election Commission of Pakistan, and accordingly, details of taxes files by those wishing to contest are a requirement. Gen Musharraf is a candidate for a National Assembly seat from Chitral, and hence his tax returns details are required by law.

Don't call me sir, I'm not some kind of a frangi. Brother/yaar would be more humble.

The people in charge of the elections have asked President Pervez Musharraf whether he has paid taxes in the last 3 years. The President has responded with a no.

Now, the question arises, should he have been paying taxes while in retirement? The election people should know the answer to this.

I agree. Let the ECP decide on the validity of his tax returns, or their absence, and other questions related to his contesting the elections.

If you are earning from overseas you don't have to pay tax and tax returns we file when we pay tax.

Is Gen Musharraf's pension earned overseas? Is his farmhouse in Chak Shehzad in a foreign country? Like I said before, let the ECP decide on this issue as the competent authority.
