Pankhuri Awasthi and Uppekha Jain of Mumbai are no household names yet, but they look all set to be one. Labelling themselves as 'Bombbaebs' the duo has posted a video #RapAgainstWomen on YouTube where they have highlighted various issues related to women in India.

The three-minute, seven second rap song has already gone viral and has got over 38,000 hits in just about 24 hours since it was uploaded.

The video starts with a caustic disclaimer that goes: "You don't have to read this. It's only a standard disclaimer. This video doesn't have any explicit content. It's just that the reality of women in India is Explicit."

The opening shot also defines masculine as "Men who are evolved enough to support the making of this video."

The song sung in English has no accompanying background music and has been recorded with the two girls standing in front of a wall and mouthing the lines. At various points in the video, the two budding singers are seen rapping even as they display placards that state #Rape, #Slut, #DomesticViolence and #Misogyny.

Throughout the song, Pankhuri and Uppekha have urged youngsters to move beyond merely going viral with the expression of anger on social media over such issues, and to do something concrete about the situation.

"Stop that tweet/ And actually get on your feet/ And help reform this mindset/ That for years has been preset," goes a line in the song.

They prefer not to introduce themselves as rap artists but as two girls trying to make a difference.

Meanwhile, interesting comments have started pouring in on the video. While most laud the effort, a few have criticised the song. One viewer, for instance, felt the song should have been sung in Hindi for a wider reach. Another viewer jokingly wondered if the BBC had funded the video.

You Indians were all going tharki the other day on that "Super Model Ayyan" thread and look what I found "Forget Ayyan" these two are perfect beauties.

Great idea and good message, and they are attractive.

they certainly spoke against the traditionally approved cliches that indians like to present in a drugged kind of way, all that contradictory "so many goddesses" thing.

and i like the one on the left. :D

Look at the gut of the one on the left. It's gross and bordering on inappropriate. The last thing I want to see is someone's fat rolls.

your opinions seem formed by fashion trends and not by your own mind... typical of a cliched modern college male...at the least, form a socialist group in your college, be a leader, be your own man.

you are talking about a female, not a male... or should female figures be androgynous, with not much left to describe them as female??

ladies should be chubby... nothing else is acceptable... the lady on the left is lovely... the one on the right needs to eat.

I fear for their safety. There would be million "Mards" in shinning india thinking of teaching these brave girls a "lesson".
I hope they take precautions when visiting india.

I believe you are over taxing that tiny brain of yours..these girls have become instant celebs, are being heaped with tons of praise and ohh yes they are Mumbaiites.
