Multiple explosions rock Quetta, Karachi

QUETTA: At least four people were killed and more than thirty others injured in a powerful explosion in Nichari road area of Quetta, while a bomb explosion in Karachi has killed two people and injured several others

Mir Zubair Mehmood, the Capital City Police Officer in Quetta told Dawn.com that the casualties were due to suicide bombing.

“Yes it was a suicide blast”, the CCPO confirmed. He said around a dozen shops and two houses were also destroyed in the powerful blast.

However, security officials said two frontier corps personnel were also among the dead. They said that the suicide bomber rammed his explosive laden vehicle in a wall near a frontier corps check post.

The bomb disposal squad told Dawn.com that 80 to 100 kilogram of explosive materials were used in the attack. The strength of blast jolted nearby areas and its loud and powerful sound was heard far and wide in Quetta city.

This blast came in the aftermath of three coordinated blasts which left eight people injured in the city. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Meanwhile in Karachi a bomb exploded near the election camp of a political party, leaving two people dead and several others injured.

The blast took place at Peoples Chowrangi after which several shops were closed down.

SSP Imran Shaukat addressed the media and confirmed the two fatalities.

This has to be termed as a moderate success...a bomber with a car full of 80 kilos of explosives doesn't come with the intention of bombing a checkpost and killing 4 people, he is there to do serious damage. The loss of lives is very sad, but the bomber wasn't there for this, his target was something else.

Once a suicide bomber has left his origin, this is the only way 99% of the time to stop him, he gets exposed in a checkpost. Rare cases of a bomber being intercepted from source or being spotted remotely and engaged are present though, but as I said, rare.

Lets not confuse its TTP and the extremist elements (both religious and sectarian) hands in hands with TTP want chaos in this city. This city is the last safe heaven for them after that they have either arabian sea or the 70 virgins (male i hope though) ..
