'MULTI-DIMENSIONAL' CISF TO RECRUIT 35,000 JAWANS: RAJNATH SINGH

RANCHI: As many as 35,000 more personnel will be recruited to the CISF which is a "multi-dimensional" force, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said today.

"A total 35,000 more personnel will be added in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which would take the strength to 1.8 lakh," he said here.

Inaugurating the Eastern Sector Headquarters of CISF and Residential Complex here, he said the "CISF has a multi- dimensional role."

Earlier, CISF used to guard industrial units, but now its responsibility has grown-- working in naxal-hit areas, being deployed at ports, airports, power installations, nuclear centers -- and they are discharging their duty commendably, Singh said.

Stating that CISF was "special" among the para-military forces, he said whenever personnel are needed for UN peace keeping forces, the attention goes to CISF.

They are responsible for the protection of government assets, and non government assets, if they pay for their service. Facilities of ISRO, oil refineries of Reliance,power plants are protected by them.

Okay but still strange. Private Companies should have there own guards. As for Government it should be Police Force

Government doesn't allow private security agencies to carry assault rifles. In banks, most security agencies are private, and all they are allowed is .303 Enfield bolt action rifle.

They do have handguns. And not army, but in Police. And it's still in use in the state police department in fewer numbers, most of them have adopted INSAS.

I hope they allow civilians to buy those vintage enfields, and use that money to buy modern assault rifles.

In India Arms for Civilians is extremely tough to get by legal means and any type of Automatic Weapon is legally not acceptable.So the Private security companies cannot do much.

Further industries , Power Plants , Air Ports , Metro Stations , etc are proving to be a very soft target for terrorists , so police is not enough. These CISF are therefore used.

Industrial areas are just one part....they offer securities to power stations, Airports, important buildings like red fort, Taj mahal etc, and many VIPs.

.303 rifles are not in use anymore even in police... police now use FNFAL/Insas/ AKs.
