MULTAN: At least 39 children have been injured when the roof of their school collapsed here on Saturday.

The severely injured children have been rushed to Nishtar Hospital while several others were provided medical treatment at the spot.

A large number of parents and locals gathered outside the school alleging that the roof collapse was caused due to on-going construction of shops by the principal next to the building.

Police have taken the principal of the school into custody.

MULTAN, Pakistan: Nearly 40 Children were injured when the roof of a school collapsed in Multan on Saturday, prompting the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take notice of the incident.

The incident occurred in Basti Ali Wala area of Multan where the roof of a private school collapsed. Resultantly, at least 39 children sustained injuries.

The injured students were shifted to Nishtar Hospital where some of the students were provided first-aid and later got discharged.

Meanwhile, the school principal was taken into custody by police for allegedly constructing shops next to the school building which eventually caused the roof collapse.

Following the incident, the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Secretary Education Schools in this regard. He also directed for providing best possible medical facilities to the injured.

Look at the quality of construction. What shall it do if not collapse. All such type of schools must be surveyed and proper maintenance should be done.

Looks like constructed with mud not cement and possibly it couldn't take vibrations from nearby construction

Roof wasn't made of t-irons and bricks but pure paindu production, with few wooden columns as girders and and probably bamboos too, topped with mud, plastic cover etc

This same school, two kids were in critical condition as per latest news.

Even heavy rain can melt down this mud construction. But good thing is children can continue their studies under any over-head bridge.

Same kind of incident happened few days back in D.G. Khan. It is South Punjab.

Even BZU is farther than this school and how do they get registration and solar panel and laptop? Bottom line is if this gov controls load shedding its more than enough. See edu in next tenure.

I mentioned edu dept. for they must have checked the school to make sure everything is alright before registration but this doesn't seem to be the case
