MIRANSHAH: The new head of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mullah Fazlullah has returned to the country’s tribal areas, a spokesman for the militants said Tuesday, after several years based in Afghanistan.

Fazlullah was elected as leader of the TTP last month after his predecessor was killed by a US drone.

The new TTP leader has been based mainly in the mountains of eastern Afghanistan since 2009, when a military operation ended his followers’ brutal two-year rule of the Swat valley.

TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said Fazlullah was now “commanding the Taliban movement at an unknown location in the tribal areas”.

The TTP and other militants have strongholds in the seven semi-autonomous tribal areas along Pakistan’s rugged, porous border with Afghanistan.

Shahid’s comments came after some Pakistani TV channels reported that Fazlullah had reached Waziristan.

“It is not true that Maulana Fazlullah is in Waziristan, he is in the tribal areas but at unknown location,” Shahid told AFP.

Then-TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud was killed by a US drone attack in North Waziristan on November 1, while South Waziristan was largely cleared of militant hideouts by a military offensive in 2009.

Washington has pushed for a similar operation in North Waziristan, currently seen as the major hub of Taliban and al Qaeda militants plotting attacks on the West and in Afghanistan.

Fazlullah, who has a $500,000 government bounty on his head, has mounted some brutal and humiliating attacks on Pakistan’s military, including the beheading of 17 soldiers after an attack in June 2012.

So you mean those who are living in Waziristan are not innocent tribals, instead they are all talibans? Do you even know the population in both North and South Waziristan? There are about 1 million people living in that region, all are talibans?

And for your info, there isn't any provincial govt in FATA or Waziristan, its directly under federal control, don't try to drag KPK govt into it. Its not KPK territory from any angle..

I asked a simple question, army is sitting in waziristan and almost every media house is reporting Fazlullah's arrival to waziristan today. If entire media can get news of his arrival, then where is our mighty ISI? What are they doing??

Evil terrorists have destroyed everything we Pakistanis own. Yet they aren't stopping there. They are continually attacking Pakistan and its interests and there is no one to stop them. I have always been highly supportive of the military and the ISI but when I see such massive failures I don't understand what to do. How will we deal with RAW interests in the region when we can't eliminate a ragtag group of evil militants?

Furthermore who let RAW infiltrate the FIA. Was it me a civilian's fault, a civilian who has said he will fight hand in hand with the security forces to defeat the Taliban if the opportunity arises? What was the ISI doing at that time? Why did they not eliminate Fazlullahs threat immediately when one policeman could have gone and captured him. Instead all we have been doing is instead of going after terrorists, framing innocent civilians on false terrorism charges.

There are major security blunders we have made and we are no more closer to defeating the Taliban than we were in 2007. 50000 Pakistanis have been killed in this war but we still are not ready to acknowledge that the Taliban are a major threat to peace in Pakistan.

Better still, Imran Khan should arrange a room for him in the KPK Chief Minister Office. At least that way PTI will be able to save him from drone attacks.
