MTV Networks enters Pakistan

MTV Networks, in a strategic move, has launched its brands MTV and Nick in Pakistan. The network has entered in to a licensing agreement with the Indus Media Group to launch MTV. Nick, on the other hand, is being launched through the ARY Digital Group.

MTV Pakistan is supposedly MTV’s 57th channel across the world. As part of the agreement, Pakistan’s music channel, ‘Indus Music’, will be launched as MTV. Ghanzafar Ali, chairman, Indus Media Group, has been appointed the chief executive officer of MTV Pakistan.

About the launches, Amit Jain, managing director, MTV Networks India and executive vice-president, MTV Networks Asia, said, “The two launches are in keeping with our expansion strategy in emerging markets. With MTV, we plan to tap the youth and musical landscape of Pakistan”.

MTV Pakistan will be a 24-hour music channel, targeted at Pakistani youth, reflecting their tastes and interests through a combination of Pakistani and international music videos and locally produced content.

Nick will provide quality entertainment and education to kids in Pakistan, through an out-of-the-box approach and interactive learning with animated shows such as SpongeBob SquarePants, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, etc.

i guess b/c the 'MTV' channel is usually looked upon as a channel not 'suitable' for the general viewing by public including kids etc...maybe that's why...or maybe PAK POP industry wasn't 'big' back then...now it's like bloooming...so that's y now the MTV ppl have launched this thing in Pak:agree:
