ISLAMABAD: The armed forces have taken very serious note of the rhetoric made by certain high ups including some ministers in recent days about the role of the armed forces of the country.

The high ups and the ministers have been reminded that the valiant armed forces are engaged in a war that is directly linked with the integrity and solidarity of the country. The army is highly esteemed organisation of the country that should not be dragged into the affairs in which they have got nothing to do.

The meeting between Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and President Asif Zardari Thursday evening is significant in the backdrop of the feelings expressed by the commanders. It has been officially stated that issues related to war on terrorism came under discussion in the meeting but sources said that some other issues also cropped up in the course of discussion between the two. It is believed that the Army Chief briefed the president on the deliberations of the Corps Commanders in the meeting held at the GHQ, Rawalpindi a day earlier.

The armed forces are of the view that some officials have been talking about the issues, which were uncalled for and such could inflict damage to the efforts to eliminate terrorism. The administration has been reminded that the armed forces must be kept away from the political discussions because such practice serves the purpose of Pakistan’s adversaries.

The reaction has not been conveyed formally in dossier but the communication is very loud and clear, the sources told this scribe.

Meanwhile, the constitutional experts pointed out that a member of the Parliament stands disqualified under the article 63 of the constitution if he/she defames or brings into ridicule the judiciary or the Armed Forces of Pakistan as the constitution states under the title of “Disqualifications for membership of Majlis-e-Shoora (Parliament).” Its clause (g) says, “He is propagating any opinion, or acting in any manner, prejudicial to the ideology of Pakistan, or the sovereignty, integrity or security of Pakistan, or morality, or the maintenance of public order, or the integrity or independence of the judiciary of Pakistan, or which defames or brings into ridicule the judiciary or the Armed Forces of Pakistan. The Director General of the ISPR was not available for comments when he was approached at his residence late on Thursday evening.

Wow,

Suddenly the judiciary and the armed forces have attained the status of holy cows---armed forces as well as the judiciary is answerable to the public in any open forum.

Yes they are answerable to the public, but it doesn't means the public representatives go on an allegations rampage without any proof in their hands. Or the lawyer of the Govt brings up allegation on the Armed Forces in the SC, when SC is hearing case which has nothing to do with the Armed Forces, or when one of the Punjab Senior Minister tries to shift their wrong doing on the armed forces to hide their incompetency.

There is a difference between being answerable to the public and the so called public representatives throwing mud on the image of judiciary and Armed forces to hide their own incompetency.

If they have proof and some point to discuss, there is the Parliament or court to go to and take up the issue, not coming into the public and just throw allegations.

Lets suppose tomorrow someone puts up allegations against you infront of some media and nation knows about that, and it is a wrong allegation or has no proof, what are you gonna do, keep sitting and take the mud thrown at you or your self respect or are you gonna go to the court to sue that person and make him pay for his wrong allegations.

Hope the difference is cleared.

Hi,

Taimikhan, I understand what you said, but making it a part of a constitution is not agreeable. That is where the twist comes in. people need to hold politicians accountable for their statements---not the constitution.

The judges will hide behind the const. and so will the millitary. That is where the rights of the peopel will further diminish.

The millitary has no right to stop anyone from criticizing it and neither does the judiciary. It is the right of every citizen of pakistan---. They don't want to be criticized as much, then they will have to raise their working standards to a higher level.

Specially the judiciary----the judiciary in pak has been criminally negligent in providing justice to the people---if no one is allowed to talk and say anything about the ills of our judicila system---then let us be ready for a revolution---if anyone needs to---I am ready to lead one.

You and I know very well that most of these judges will be hung on the light pole when the revolution comes---but these judges are playing russian roullete with the people---they want to cash it in till they can, because they have assumed that revolution is a little distance away.

Same is the case with some of the general staff.

In a country that has been like a playground for military coup d'etats ever since it came to being, it is very much normal to be weary of these kind of things. However, the ministers here are using this to their advantage but then again you could also make the point that it is due to PA's past incursions into Pakistani politics that allows these so called ministers to use this to their political advantage. They know that what the effect of another coup de'tat will have on pakistani people, so they continue to use that card to their advantage. In short, Pakistan military although is wrongly blamed in this particular case but as a whole it is responsible for creating the atmosphere that allows these politicians to use it to their advantage. Mastan Khan is right Military i.e "armed forces as well as the judiciary is answerable to the public in any open forum."

When the interior minister of Sindh talks about breaking Pakistan as casually as having tea and is not reprimanded by the government or his party leadership (which are the same)....it shows me clearly why democracy fails in Pakistan.
They think they are doing a great service by just being in Pakistan and not acting against it, they think that this is an act of greatness?
Someone should have asked this rascal as to what his followers would have gained by trying to break up from Pakistan and how the rest of Pakistan would allow this to happen?
So many ministers and prime ministers from Sindh and yet these baboons can only rally voters by trying to portray an anti Sindhi environment...instead of asking people to come forward for the sake of Pakistan...the feudal mentality most rampant in Sindh is actually the bane of Pakistani politics...these feudals need to be broken if our democracy is to survive.

There is an exponential increase in highly irresponsible and absolutely retarded statements by the various members of PPP...this has to stop.
It is not just about Army or judiciary, a government representative cannot speak from his A** all the time...without any proof or reason...
What happened in the NRO case hearing was another reminder of how our political leadership has failed to behave responsibly despite the proclamation of having learnt their lessons.

Accountability is well and good but there has to be a responsible and mature manner to highlight any issue, when sweeping statements regarding CIA being the controller of GHQ and threatening our champions of democracy are given then i must say my faith in these politicians runs very thin indeed...

Look at how they are handling the sugar, wheat, energy crisis in the country...they have taken us from one crisis to another and still they have the audacity to ignore these core issues and focus on conspiracy theories and give landmark statements everyday....

Why the aversion to the reality that they have failed so far in restoring faith in democracy...the people were desperate for anything positive to allude to democracy, sadly they have to wait further...i just pray there is light at the end of the tunnel or we shall really stop caring about democracy which has become another form of legalized looting and protection from accountability.

Petty minded Blackmailing of a people and country by its own ruling party is something i have really never seen anywhere else...this is exactly what the statements at the anniversary of BB were...nothing less and nothing more.
