Moviegoers rejoice: Pakistan to get 1,000 cinema screens

Moviegoers should rejoice as the government is planning to increase the number of cinema screens from 127 to 1,000.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said that more cinema screens will create 20,000 jobs and give a boost to the film industry.

Pakistan welcomes any joint venture in the arena of exchange of films and co-productions, he said.



Chaudhry met with the US Chargé d Affaires Paul Jones on Tuesday. The two agreed to boost cultural cooperation revival of Pakistani films. The revival of the cinema would not only provide entertainment to the people, but would also generate economic activity, he remarked.

He further added that media was enjoying unprecedented freedom in Pakistan, and the current government believes in freedom of expression

If he continues his dumb antics, he’ll be removed from his post quite soon. Signs are already there.

PTI should take measures to make Pakistani movies more inline with our culture before aiming for 1000 cinemas. Otherwise, it’s just gonna be a loss for PTI in the end.

Trust me, headlines like “PTI govt lookin to open 1000 cinemas across Pakistan” leaves a VERY negative image in the mind of your average voter in Bahawalpur or Nowshera etc

Lahore definately needs modern 5D sound and HD latest quality cinemas - very difficult to get tickets for Pakistani movies nowadays due to over crowding.

The Islamabadi and Karachi voter got no issue with that they see it as a patriotic party giving make in Pakistan their priority

Not Lahore but smaller cities in Punjab have massive potential

Pmln has a government in AJK there is huge potential for a cinema in Mirpur due to a large British Pakistani community lets see what happens
