Moro National Liberation Front resumes armed struggle against Philippines

Normally every time things like this happens in other countries, the group responsible for this act of terror will be harshly dealt with unlike here...that's why the rebels just kept on doing the wrong thing as they please.

say wipe those terrorist out of our country once and for all and be done with it.

This is the Philippines, one country, one nation. Once you bear arms against it and started killing military personnel and civilians, taking hostages...you are considered a "TERRORIST".

You guys tried killing Habier Malik in 2007. It didn't suceed, your operation failed.

New governor of Papua will empower separatist groups

The newly elected governor of Indonesia’s Papua province, Lukas Enembe says he will approach separatist groups and offer to empower them.

He says the government needs to listen to separatists and he expects better communication through his new approach.

Governor Enembe expected all regents facing problems with separatists to follow his lead, but he needs support from the central government.

He says the ongoing problems for citizens are injustice and a lack of prosperity.

Lukas Enembe’s administration will focus on education, welfare and development, and will use the special autonomy funds to finance the programmes.

Papua has received 2.9 billion US dollars of special autonomy funds in the last decade.

MNLF fighters engage Scout Rangers in Basilan firefight – police official
September 12, 2013 9:56am

(Updated 11:29 a.m.) — Members of the Moro National Liberation Front engaged government troops in a firefight in Lamitan City in Basilan province Thursday morning, a police report said.

Senior Superintendent Mario Dapilloza, Basilan provincial police director, told GMA News TV's News to Go that the firefight started about 9 a.m., between Army Scout Rangers and an undetermined number of MNLF gunmen in Barangay Campo Uno.

In a radio interview, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Gov. Mujiv Hataman said six people were wounded in the firefight between the Scout Rangers and combined forces of the MNLF, Abu Sayyaf and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Lamitan.

"Yung ano rito, Abu Sayyaf at may mangilan-ngilan na may hawak ng BIFF doon at mangilan ngilan na MNLF," Hataman told dzBB radio, citing initial information reaching him.

Citing initial information, Hataman said two civilian volunteer organization (CVO) members and one Ranger were "slightly wounded." "Sa kabila may tatlong tinamaan."

MNLF forces in Basilan

Meanwhile, Dapilloza estimated the total number of MNLF forces in Basilan to be more than a thousand.

Moreover, he said security forces had received intelligence reports about the movement of MNLF forces to Lamitan, prompting them to make necessary adjustments to prevent surprise attacks.

“Ilang days na rin yung preparation natin sa area,” said Dapilloza .

A separate report from the Army said an earlier firefight occurred in Valentine Detachment in Barangay Magcawa, Tipo-Tipo town, when around 50 armed men, believed to be members of the bandit Abu Sayyaf group and MNLF fighters, harassed government forces.

Capt. Jefferson Somera, spokesman for the 1st Infantry Division said soldiers stationed at Sitio Camalig, Bohe Paho, Ungkaya-Pukan town provided support to the Army detachment at Tipo-Tipo at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.

It was not immediately clear if the suspected MNLF members in Basilan are allied with those now engaging government forces in a standoff in Zamboanga City since Monday.

The standoff in Zamboanga City entered its fourth day Thursday, with the situation still tense and police and soldiers maintaining strict checkpoint operations, dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr. reported. — with a report from Andrei Medina /LBG/KG/RSJ, GMA News

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – As firefights between government forces and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members continue in Zamboanga City and Basilan, the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) advised civilians living near military checkpoints and camps in Central Mindanao to temporarily leave their homes.

Abu Misry Mama, spokesman of the BIFF, hinted intensified attacks most especially in the province of North Cotabato. The BIFF is a breakaway group of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which is holding peace negotiations with the Aquino government.

“The best thing that the civilians, who are living near military checkpoints, may do is to temporarily leave their homes to avoid getting caught in the crossfire most especially in North Cotabato,” Mama said.

He however clarified that any attacks launched by the BIFF is not related to the attacks of the MNLF.

“If we will attack, this will be because of our struggle and Jihad. It only coincided with the attacks of the MNLF,” Mama said.

Despite reports that the MNLF has created an alliance with the BIFF, Mama clarified that both groups have different frameworks in their Bangsamoro struggle.

“We both want independence, but the BIFF wants the implementation of Islamic governance,” Mama said.

Gov't securing area

“The BIFF wants an independent state governed by Islamic laws even if it will be only as small as a barangay,” Mama said.

Gov Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza gave assurances that government troops will secure the province from attacks.

"Government troops as well as other agencies are on the lookout in our area of responsibility. We do not take for granted any information that reached our office," Mendoza said.

"We do not want violence in our area. We appeal to civilians to be pro-active and vigilant as far as peace and order is concerned," Mendoza said.

Led by former 105th Base commander Ameril Umra Kato, the BIFF splintered from the MILF after serious disagreements over the decision of the MILF to enter into peace negotiations with the government. – Rappler.com

MANILA - Amid the ongoing security crisis in Zamboanga City, the 6th Infantry Division is strictly monitoring the entire Central Mindanao, division spokesman Colonel Dicson Hermoso said Thursday.

Hermoso also called on the public to keep calm in the face of circulating text messages of the alleged entry of Nur Misuari-led Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) forces into some towns of Maguindanao and their attack of Cotabato City and the compound of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).

The military spokesman also belied reports that Misuari’s people have joined forces with Ustads Ameril Umbra Kato’s Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighter (BIFF) and are in Paidu Pulangi in Pikit, North Cotabato.

For his part, BIFF spokesman Abu Misrie Mama echoed Hermoso's statement and said his group has not joined this forces with Misuari's.

He said what MNLF is fighting for is different from what BIFF is fighting for.

Muslimin Sema, MNLF executive chairman of the Council of 15, said members of his group will not participate in the violence perpetrated by Misuari.

Sema said he continues to support the Philippine government in the pursuit of peace and development for the Bangsamoro.

The Sema faction of the MNLF is based in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur.

In the face of the misinformation circulating in the region, the military and the police are on alert.

Last night, the ARMM Cabinet met with the 6th ID Commanding General Romeo Gapuz

In a related development, 30 dump trucks full of food items were sent by the ARMM government this morning to those who fled Zamboanga.
