TOI poll: More than 85% back BJP over Aamir Khan

NEW DELHI: Actor Aamir Khan's onscreen popularity might be indisputable, but his comment on intolerance doesn't seem to have impressed many.

An online poll on timesofindia.com shows little support for the actor who said his wife Kiran Rao had wondered if they should move out of the country, as she feared for the safety of their son in a climate of insecurity.

Aamir's comments evoked strong, negative reactions from the BJP as well as from some Bollywood actors.

BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain on Tuesday said no country in the world is better for Muslims than "incredible and 'atulya' (unmatched)" India and no neighbour better than a Hindu.

We asked our readers if they agreed with Hussain's remarks against the actor.

A whopping 86.5 per cent of respondents agreed with Hussain's reaction to Aamir Khan's comments.

Of a total 22,694 people who participated in our poll, 19,627 said they agreed with Hussain and only 2,747 said they didn't agree with him.

A total of 320 respondents voted, but refrained from taking sides.

The actor on Wednesday issued a statement saying he is proud to be an Indian and that while he does not plan to leave the country, he stands by his comments.

My response for Amir Khan, Amir Bhai, I am with you if you feels that intolerance is making you and your wife concerned, I am with you if some people is attacking you for being Muslim, and advising you to go to pakistan, I am with you if you want to express your concern or your feelings by returning any award, but I am not with you with your irresponsible statement, actually your wife's comment is making fun of those People who cannot leave the country like you and your family, and making fun to those people who thinks that India is the Land of tolerance, and communal harmony and equal rights and status to every society, religion, culture, and cast. Your statement is giving oppurtunity to the enemy states to open their mouth and spill Venom against the my Country, whose foundations are laid by our great thinkers and leaders on the basis of Democracy.

I really hate these f**king media.First thing they should've asked Aamir was "What kind of threat you're facing?"

These medias like only "Hype" and not asking "Sensible Question".

Aamir Khan's wife Kiran Rao is a hindu.what kind of "Threat" she can possibly face??

I'm also a huge fan of Aamir Khan. But no offense,if Aamir face any kind of threat to him or his family, either he should alert authority about it or simply leave for safe refuge.Making stupid comments and gaining popularity/getting defamed on it doesn't going to help.

Same question should be asked about Shahrukh,Salman and others as well.

You see, that is why people get angry about these "So called feelers".In 1980s,Mumbai saw bloodbath due to Gang war and large part of these goons came from one religious background. Not a single actor ever uttered that they felt unsafe due to this.Does "1 mob lynching" in UP made them so vulnerable??

.
Bhakt can keep fanstasizing. In UP, West Bengal etc. they'll see what the real indian feels.

.
If I am not wrong it was his wife opinion not Aamir Khan that they should leave India as Indians are not rolearant enough to spend their hard earned money on buying a ticket of her movie..

.
And a poster here said only 40% of Hindus voted for BJP. We now know who voted communally and who did not.

22,694 people
what percentage of the population does this make? :pop:

How is this earning popularity? Why indians think everything has to be for popularity? Did he lack popularity? I mean in india chances are people know him more than you....same goes around the world ...So was he lacking any fame that he needed the intolerance level to rise AGAINST him?

why people get angry
Strange....Muslims are not allowed to be angry when people mock their prophet, religion or nation but god forbid someone says a thing about india? Why the double standards? We are asked to be civilized and accept (not ridicule) difference of opinion....where did that preaching go? - Not meaning you preached it but it is what is thrown at us so I assume it should be utilized everytime, right?

. .
that number is big
strange how people move into denial mode if it is weighting against their concepts ....

That no. cant represent whole of indians! I mean even your normal village has more people than that! So...lets try again what % of the population makes 22,694 people?
