BEIJING: Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Chinese Zhao Lijian Monday said that as the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) enters the second phase, there will be more Chinese agricultural technologies flowing into Pakistan.
“China-Pakistan cooperation in cultivating rice, corn, soybean, sugarcane and other crops has yielded fruitful results and playing an important role in promoting development of our bilateral relations and deepening friendship between our people,” he said.
Addressing the launching ceremony of Kisan Portal for the farmers under Pakistan Citizen’s Portal in Islamabad, Prime Minister Imran Khan had said that Pakistani farmers have to learn new techniques to boost productivity like China.
The PM had stated that the agriculture sector has been included under the umbrella of CPEC.
In response to PM Imran Khan remarks, Zhao Lijian said that agricultural cooperation is an integral part of CPEC an important pilot project of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
“China would remain in close communication with Pakistan in the work to form efficient practical cooperation mechanism to promote socio-economic development and improve people’s well being to build an even closer China-Pakistan community with shared future in the new era,” he added.
It may be mentioned here that Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam has also stated that Pakistan has to adopt Chinese technology for abundant agriculture-food.
“Pakistan can be successful like China by adopting their technology and discipline,” he had remarked while speaking as chief guest at an event in connection with World Food Day (WFD) jointly organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R) in Islamabad.

IMO China is planning to turn Pakistan into an important agricultural food supplier for China.
It will be a WIN-WIN for both nations and it will help to boost Pakistani living standard and economy. :coffee:

I want Pakistan to at least reach 40-30 position in global hunger index before even thinking about agricultural exports (of course no issues with high-value food exports like tea, olive, avocado, honey etc)

To improve economy this can play a role but hopefully just a role not the real strategy, IT and manufacturing is needed

You are absolutely right and Pakistan will achieve that.

But for all planners the period must be longer to the point where Pakistan can starts to export its food and ware to other nations.
Look a good look at what China is doing in Africa for their agricultural sectors. It is beginning to bear fruits now.

Starts by achieving self sufficiency.

China by sharing its technologies os helping Pakistan to achieve its objective.

Think positively.

Pakistan can never be a food supplier. And there are reasons for that.

1. Pakistan population increases more than our agricultural input. This further out burden on our food sector and force us to import.

2. Pakistani rivers are drying up. We are facing water scarcity when we need it. We are not even getting 50% of water during cultivation period as compare to 70's-80s .

3. Agricultural land is being used for housing societies, farm houses etc. Almost every where you go you see trend of open houses on farm lands. This is reducing our agricultural land. Ofcourse we can turn forest land into agricultural but that further decreases our forest cover and negatively effect our ecological cycle.

4. In Pakistan almost 70-80% of farmers are small farmers owning not more than 2 Kanal land (10-11000 square feet). This Means our average farmer is poor and have no money to invest in modern tools and machinery as it's not feasible to spend so much money on equipments and machinery for land as small as 10-11 thousand square feet.

There are the reasons I have no hope of any exponential growth in our per acre production. Introduction of new seeds are helping in bringing a little increase in per acre production but that is nothing Infront of our annual increase in food requirement. Introduction of new tools and machinery from China will also not be accessible and feasible to almost 80% of our farmers because they can't afford it, have no land to use it on and hence can't recover the cost of it.

But I am not here to only tell you about the problems. Ofcourse there are solutions as well.

1. Dams due to its elevation bring those lands in your agricultural system which were previously not fit for agriculture purpose due to elevated heights. They also being water to baren lands making them fit for agriculture. We need to identify those dams and even if they product not a single MW of electricity we still need to built them.

2. Ban housing societies on agricultural lands.

3. Bring a scheme where small farmers can combine their lands and efforts so that they can afford latest technologies for their lands.

We are already doing the first 2 things (to some extent)

3rd is ambitious and hard to do for government

Maybe a private business with apps etc? At the end of the day we desperately need industrialization so we can give these guys jobs in the cities

In ideal situation
Slowly they should migrate to the cities where we build adequate infrastructure for this migration, make new cities so no big slum problem (I know we have issues but not even close to how bad slums get around the globe in devoloping countries) comes

Life of a small farmer isn't sustainable in rural areas

Pakistan has great agricultural potential.
Pakistan has 57.68 million hectares of cultivated land and China has 197.45 million hectares of cultivated land. Pakistan's annual grain output is 44 million tons and China's annual grain output is 660 million tons.
In theory, China's technology has the ability to increase Pakistan's grain production to 190 million tons.

China needs to help invest money into friendly countries like Russia, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Iran etc to help them build high end agricultural industries like high grade beef, lamb, wine etc so it can substitute exports coming from hateful western countries for those products.

Maybe import cattle stock from Australia and build joint ventures in order to establish modern infrastructure for those industries that can rival what exists in western countries, especially since China is the biggest market for those high end products. It will bring a lot of wealth to those countries.

This can help if we hire small farmers in industries and in return they handover their lands to other bug farmers, or a government agency which in return will 1). pay them for the land . 2) make 1 acre farms. 3. Sell those 1 acre farms to anyone who agree to only use the land for farming and is open to new technologies.

I know this is ambitious to shift small farmers toward this but this is the need of the hour.

How much agricultural land a normal average farmer own in China ?

The ownership of all land in China belongs to the state, and China has no private land. The right of use belongs to the collective of villagers in each village, each village divides the land equally according to the population to each family. Due to different population density, the amount of land owned by villagers in each village is also different. Some villagers in Northeast China can even get more than ten hectares of land, the villagers in the South may only have more than ten mu of land.

Population control is VERY important. I don't know if it's against religious teachings among Muslims but it's against many conservative Catholics in Mexico and many parts in S. America. Keep in mind China's success today lies also on its population control policy for a few decades until just these two years.

An adequate food supply is a guarantee of the stability of the country. I want all countries to unleash their agricultural potential and end world hunger. To achieve this goal, the transfer of agricultural technology is necessary. So, I think agricultural technology should be free, no patents. I don't know the current situation, but I hope China will do it first.

Agriculture in Pakistan needs an overhaul and Chinese assistance can help us greatly.
The areas of improvement are,
- Crop Yield/acre
- Efficient water resource management
- Hybrid seeds
- Access to better field machinery for harvesting
- Environment friendly fertilizers
- Eco friendly herbicides & pesticides

Moreover there is a need for policy reforms vis a vis agricultural land that is being wasted or being converted to commercial lands.
