Moody’s casts uncertainty over loan: Pakistan’s government liquidity and external vulnerability risks are elevated

I am understanding the irony of your post but its public getting burdened and not the elite, it seems the elites deliberately want to create Sri Lankan type situation. If that happen, then there will be an anarchy.

GoP should have thought about IMF conditions (they are economists and they should have known these things) earlier itself and should have made course corrections rather waiting so long to get things get out of hand.

yes but sometimes things are soooo down that there is no other option. You will have to go through a period of extreme pain to get better. Remember we did it in 1991?

There is a major difference between India and Pakistan. India is largely an independent state with an independent foreign policy. It's leaders have a good understanding how steer their country.

Pakistan is a kleptocracy.

I think its right time for GoI to take initiative for offer peace and start negotiations. I believe we should sit down and settle our old issues and open the borders and start trades. Because it’s not the elite/decision makers suffering its people just like us suffering.

Any revolt/revolution will not only hurt Pakistan internally but also its neighbours also. So, from security point its better for India to take initiative to solve issues and help them with food, medicines. A better trade relation within SAARC will not only help Pakistan to stand up on its foot but also normalize relation with India.

Our policies came with a cost. Policies of 1991 are gamble took by then PM PVN & FM MMS and the gamble worked out, but everyone knows what happened to PVN later. MMS understood his limitations and lived with it.

These solutions will take several years. I think in about two weeks time it will be game over- I believe their Forex is about 2.3 Billion now? It drops below 1 B then it might as well be zero because the psychological trigger for an invester run will be final.

When I observe GoP, its establishment & the Awam's attitude and actions, I get a feeling as if Pakistan is being "Honor Killed" right now. No solution suggested by GoI will be acceptable to them. They will rather implode than accepting such truce, which they will consider to be beyond their honor, beyond their destiny and their haque.

So, its rather pragmatic to be prepared for all eventualities, whether its revolt, revolution, meltdown or implosion. BTW, I do not wish such fallout and hope they can turn it around, at least for the sake of the Awam, but the ground realities aren't very optimistic.

We will not offer any peace prospects to Pakistan anytime soon, and neither will they. We both have come too far for this to materialise for the foreseeable future. Most in India are indifferent or just watching and smiling at the tamasha and deriving sadistic pleasure. If we were in the position that Pak is now in then how do you think their reaction would have been?

We will be affected but the idea being given that we should not allow Pak to suffer more is just being told so that present systems do not get too much of a jolt. Did we worry about enmity, economic sanctions from US etc when we did 1971? If our government could it would have harmed Pak more than it is doing now.

This is all very good.

The corrupt ruling elite are way too deeply entrenched.

Nothing short of an inferno will do.

Let it burn.
Sorry to break it to you.

But that already happened and people let those men back.

In 1999 the country bankruptes the economy crashed and took years to recover and ruppe crashed

How did you people responded?

They voted those people back.

You will see them voted bank soon it will be maryum or bilawal this time

Very noble thought. But there are problems. Pakistan's problems are immediate; any dividends from greater peace and cooperation will come later. If India initiates the first move, it will raise suspicion among Pakistan's (and other) skeptics that India is trying to fish in troubled waters and hence it will fail because of that appearance. For Pakistan, they have more immediate concerns and fear that any rapprochement now will be from a position of weakness and hence not fair. Ill will of decades can't be papered over quickly, it will require years of patient and persistent negotiations by rational and intelligent negotiators.

Actually they have around USD 5 billion as deposits from KSA and UAE which they shouldnt have dipped into. Their forex reserves are already in the negative. That is why no L/Cs are being issued- there is no forex!

I have been reading about the $ shortage in Pakistan for several months now. But is it really affecting anyone's life and living in Pakistan? Has anyone in Pakistan have had to do without any necessity or comfort?

What are KSA and UAE thinking when seeing checks being written on 'Deposits'? What will they feel when it goes to zero as is inevitable? Nice to have some flies on the walls.

As for as I know Pakistan’s immediate problems are food, fuel, medicine & electricity and which India can provide just like we are providing to Sri Lanka and money which is responsibility of policy makers and public can’t be made suffer for policy makers foolishness.

I still believe black money in $$ horded by elites are funneled back to Pakistan by way of deposit from UAE & SA, otherwise how can they keep quite even when they can see their money has been drained by stupid actions.

I am sure they are aware. I guess it is between two brotherly countries belonging to the Ummah.
