“You can’t teach old dog new tricks!” – This terms suits no one better than the infamously controversial Geo/Jang Group Owner Mir Shakil ur Rahman, who has apparently learnt no lesson from his past gaffes with Pakistan Army and is now onto hisnext schemeto “get back” at the Armed Forces and agencies for near-demolition of his media empire.

Mir Shakil’s revengenda kicked in motion right when Hamid Mir invited the Federal Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif on an interview in his show Capital Talk Last night August 06, 2014. This invitation was extended by Hamid Mir on Mir Shakil’s insistence as he wanted to give the outlook to the public and armed forces that Geo is still in the good books of the government. However Khawaja Asif, aware of Geo’s desperate attempts to get back in PML(N)’s good graces after the party recently maintained its distance in order to avoid the displeasure of the armed forces.

Khawaja Asif, being aware of Mir Shakil’s knack for twisting the narrative by cutting the parts of interview as to his own advantage, insisted that interview should be guaranteed not to be edited or twisted– to which Hamid Mir reassured.

But as expected, the aired version of the interview was far from what actually was recorded, with a MAJOR portion regarding GEO’s insolent behavior totally removed! In the scrapped part of the actual interview, the Defense Minister chastised Geo and its poor editorial policy for wronging the Pak Army and not even showing any regret over it. The minister reportedly went on saying that Geo did display a traitorous demeanor blaming the ISI without any evidence putting national security in jeopardy.

The distorted version of the interview aired which carries not a single comment of the Federal Minister about GEO has reportedly agitated the Defense Minister but also created an air of repugnance among the Army regarding the aired narrative. For Damage Control, Mir Shakil and Hamid Mir have came up with a strategy that would involve Hamid Mir playing the “angered employee card” pretending to step down from his position at Geo Network to calm the minister down.

This HOAX resignation which may soon be made public goes to show that Geo and Mir Shakil ur Rahman has failed to learn the lesson from their past mistakes. It is time that the Government and PML(N) also get the message loud and clear that “once a traitor – always a traitor!”
