DI KHAN:
At least four soldiers were killed when Taliban insurgents attacked a military check post in the South Waziristan tribal agency in the wee hours of Friday.
Over 70 militants, including Uzbek fighters, attacked the check post in the Asman Manza area of the Ladha sub-division, according to a Peshawar-based security official.
Another security official from the area claimed that four attackers were also killed and three injured in retaliatory fire from security forces.
Ehsanullah Ehsan, the spokesperson for the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack in Saam village and put the number of dead soldiers at 15.
Ehsan claimed that the check post and an army tank were also destroyed in the attack. He claimed that only one TTP fighter was killed and a few others were injured in retaliatory fire from the security forces.

Ehsan’s claim of military losses could not be verified independently. The militants usually exaggerate military losses in their raids.
The region, once a stronghold of the TTP, was cleared of militants after the military operation, codenamed Reh-e-Nejat, in 2009. But militants carry out sporadic attacks on security forces in Ladha and Sararugha sub-divisions of South Waziristan.

goes to show our army is ill equipped.
Then people want them to go to north waziristan and get killed even more.

70 people attacking a checkpost, having at most 10 men, yup, ill-equipped.

Post No 1 says 15 killed.

There must be some survivors too, also it is unlikley that there would be posts placed with 10 soldiers.

If they had tanks there too ( as claimed in post no 1) , there must be more men.

Tanks are always deployed in Tank troops - i.e Three tanks and need protection from the infantry when static.

Ill equipped,yes.
Cant communucate for enforcements.
Or if did communicate.. Enfircements failed to arrive in time to take down 70 men..
Mind you,70 men cant disappear in thin air.
And 70 men cant appear out of nowhere. They must have gathered and marched to the checkposts.
So no surveilance around the checkpists..,such as cctv..or round the clock air surveilance of the area.
Hence ill equipped...

Alot of variables. Checkposts usually have 10.15 men stationed, not a whole unit.

Anyway, I would wait for any other confirmation of this. As the article mentioned, TTP have a habit of over exaggerating.

Thats why i am against military operation.
PA cant trace the enemy..cant predict attacks via surveilance or intelligence...cant chase up the attackers and kill them.
They always appear out if nowhere, kill soldiers and disapoear in thin air.

This isn't the US army that we are talking about round the clock air-surveillance!

CCTV in SW, yeah right!

So we have to get round the clock air surveillance and CCTV around 100 odd posts in the area?

When 200 men disappeared in Bannu, 70 men are like a needle in a haystack!!!

Have you ever been to a checkpost. There is a Toyota 4x4 with a LMG, a compliment of around 8-12 men, sitting there on 8 hour duties. What do you want them to do against 70 men?

Anyway, this was the TTP claim, let's see what other folks put it like.

^^^ Exactly.
Thats why PA is not ready for an operation in wazirustan.
Will be practice targets for militants and nothing positive will be obtained.

You would love that to be true but in the same breath it also quotes .."Ehsan’s claim of military losses could not be verified independently. The militants usually exaggerate military losses in their raids".
Express Tribune is well known for picking stories out of the air, let's see if any other source reports on the incident.

This has become a routine..Terrorists come in large numbers and swarm individual posts in middle of the night..
Pak forces should take adequate measures to improve reaction time in reinforcing the posts under attack.

Pakistan needs technology and intelligence to contemplate these kind of attacks, hand held thermal radars can help trace suspicious movements in buffer zones from far

^^ There are vert cheap make shifts equipment available....no need of fancy equipment.
Piss poor budgeting is only good for getting soldiers killed.
Then our emotional nation wants PA to go after militants in NWA.
They need to smell coffe and wake up.
