Mike Tyson, the 53-year-old former heavyweight champion of the world and Hall of Famer, says he’s been training a bit to gear up for some exhibition charity fights.

Speaking with rapper T.I. on Instagram Live, Tyson admitted it’s been tough, but that he’s getting back into shape a little bit:

“I’ve been working out, I’ve been trying to get in the ring, I think I’m going to box some exhibitions and get in shape. I’ve been hitting the mitts for the last week. That’s been tough, my body is really jacked up and really sore from hitting the mitts. My body’s in pain, I feel like three guys kicked the [redacted] out of me.”

Tyson, of course, wouldn’t need to be in any sort of spectacular shape for an exhibition fight, and with money generated going toward charity (to benefit “some homeless and drug-affected motherfuckers like me”), it’s a nice idea.

Tyson retired from boxing after back-to-back losses to Danny Williams and Kevin McBride in 2004-05, looking a shadow of his former self in the McBride bout in particular, where he quit after six rounds. He’s long said he just didn’t have the desire to fight anymore. He did start what was supposed to be a series of exhibition fights in 2006, but only did one of a proposed 12 dates.

In more recent years, Tyson has extensively rehabbed his public image and persona, seemingly finding some peace in life, and has ventured well outside of boxing with his brand, going into the marijuana field and doing the Adult Swim cartoon “Mike Tyson Mysteries,” which so far has run four seasons from 2014-19.

Gents, he's 53. It's no age for such shenanigans. He's probably in need of money or something.

Still a beast. Glad he's doing well. I watch his Hotboxin youtube podcast.

From what I have seen, this will only be for charity. He is not coming back to boxing in full capacity.
