NEW DELHI: Micromax has launched its new Android tablet, the Funbook P280 at Rs 4,650.

The Funbook P280 comes with a detachable keyboard and a leather case.

The tablet sports a 7-inch 5-point capacitive multi-touch screen that features a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. Powered by a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor (All Winner A13), the tablet comes with 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card.

The Funbook P280 runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and comes preloaded with apps like Spuul, Opera Mini, Kingsoft Office, and M!Live. It sports a 0.3MP rear camera capable of shooting video.

The tablet is backed by a 2,400mAh battery and the company claims a standby time of 250 hours. In terms of connectivity, the tablet supports WiFi and 3G connectivity via USB dongle. It does not support voice calling.

...when will these be made in India...not assembled in India...All smartphones are chjxed in India...and teh ust a sticker is fiinese made and packing...

Micromax is an Indian company!!!

No voice calling and 0.3 MP camera makes it a bit dull, But considering the price, its probably a good deal!!

When we start working on our manufacturing capabilities, infrastructure etc etc etc...

Any foreign company can tell you how hard it is to make investments here.

Apple iPhone are designed in California. Micromax phones are generic phones made in China that are just rebadged with the Micromax logo.

That's what the company used to do in its initial days, now they have moved on to in house designing.

Micromax, the largest Indian-owned brand by sales, which has invested more than $10 million in R&D, is stepping up funding to form a separate division for in-house research to a create a smartphone range "rivalling Nokia and Samsung's", an executive said.

"We are working towards manufacturing feature-rich smartphones. One such effort is a gesture control engine on our Superfone device," said Micromax's co-founder Rahul Sharma. This technology enables a user to operate a Superfone simply by hand gestures.

The company employs 40 people in its R&D centre in Gurgaon.
 
Well that's heartening, but 40 people does not a R&D division make.
Enough for a company of this size. They were also going to set up another division in Beijing, don't know what happened about that.

Dear U have to understand the way the deptts and institutes are named in India. e.g all the hospitals you will see has 'Research center' in it's name...It has to do more to the TAX slab than to any research .
The R& D at micromax is more like the development of cover, flip or slotted ...Actually they too are imported from china..:hitwall:
