Dhaka, Apr 7 (UNB) - The proposed Dhaka City Metro Rail Project will be a profitable project through utilising the planning, design, and construction and operational experience of the Kolkata Metro Rail project, the first metro rail project in the subcontinent, said an expert.
At present, therere over 16 kilometers of underground rail track in Kolkata. Along with the elevated metro rail and Indian railway, an integrated rail network is playing an important role in the mass transportation in Kolkata, former chief engineer of Kolkata Metro Rail Project Ashukh Sengupta told a seminar here on Saturday.
Engineering Department of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) organised the seminar, titled Kolkata Metro: Planning, Design, Construction and Operation at IEB seminar room.
Eminent urban planner and IEB former president Prof Jamilur Reza Choudhury, IEB president and Rajuk chairman Nurul Huda, general secretary and Agrani Bank director M Abdus Sabur and vice-chairman Prof Dr Munaz Ahmed Nur, among others, spoke at the seminar held with chairman of IEB Engineering Department Kazi Khairul Bashar in the chair.
