n attempt to avoid offending Muslims and Jews, Oxford University Press are planning to ban authors from referring to “anything pork-related” in their school textbooks.

The UK's leading educational publisher, Oxford University Press, are planning to ban references to sausages and pigs in their books.

A spokesperson from the publisher defended the move, claiming books needed to be “acceptable in other cultures” for them to be exported.

Educational materials produced by the publisher in the UK are sold in over 150 countries. The spokesperson said they need to “consider a range of cultural differences and sensitivities.”

These editorial guidelines are intended to make sure the materials can be “disseminated to the widest possible audience.”

On BBC Radio 4's Today program on Monday, presenter Jim Naughtie said: “I've got a letter here that was sent out by OUP to an author doing something for young people.”

“Among the things prohibited in the text that was commissioned by OUP was the following: Pigs plus sausages, or anything else which could be perceived as pork,” he added.

Naughtie described the recommendation made by OUP as “ludicrous” and “just a joke.”

Muslim Labour MP Khalid Mamood said: “I absolutely agree [with Naughtie]. That's absolute and utter nonsense.” Khalid said when political correctness goes too far, it brings the whole discussion into“disrepute.”

Furthermore, he doubts that Muslims or Jews would be offended by mentions of farm animals in a children's book.

A Jewish Leadership Council spokesman said: “Jewish law prohibits eating pork, not the mention of the word, or animal from which it derives.”

“How on earth can anyone find the word 'pig' or 'pork' offensive?” asked Conservative Party MP Phillip Davies.

“No word is offensive, it is the context in which it is used that is offensive.”

“One good thing to come out of the Paris terror attacks was a groundswell of support for freedom of speech,” he told the Daily Mail.

“The political correctness brigade appear to have taken control of our schools,” he added.

Davies believes the Secretary of State needs to “get a grip over this” and hopes the “ridiculous ban is stopped at once.”

this is too much political correctness. @SarthakGanguly , @DRAY , @levina , @thesolar65 , @Syed.Ali.Haider and others.

. .
Also remove any mentions of critical thinking from the schoolbooks, as we know nothing offends the tender feelings of superstitious lot more than that.

.
We should all also now through official decree head to the nearest mosque in our individual localities to offer prayers 5 times a day.

Not doing so and continuing to pray to our pagan Gods could offend Muslims. One never knows in these troubled times.

While we are at it, maybe cover our women in burqas too.

sunny's big fan ? lol

Bowing down to terrorists and extremists.

Exactly.

CNN pulled images of their prophet deemed to be offensive. In the US, the land of freedom.

That is exactly what is happening. We are being bullied by an asymmetric bully who has the luxury of killing wantonly without bother for the identity or faith or belief system of the victim, while the rest of us go looking specifically for loony tunes to gun down.

We need a paradigm shift in our thinking for this war we find ourselves in.

Please do not make it another case against Muslims, enough already, Oxford printing press is not in Muslim control and neither it is in India. And besides Muslims there is also mentioning of Jews.

Your praying to anything has nothing to do with me (I am Muslim), pray to whatever you want but do not get carried away with your biased opinions and assumptions.

Yes the Jews are mentioned. But I don't find Jews going around the world gunning innocent people down and strapping explosives to their torsos and finding the most crowded marketplace to blow themselves up in, all to avenge some "offense."

If you cannot see the temporal relationship between events in the way they are unfolding worldwide, you are either not looking, have your eyes closed, or do not want to see.

Of course the lunatics amongst you want all of us to accept Allah and pray to him. Even the super devout so-called moderates and liberals amongst you do. Some say so openly, some not so openly. But its there.
