Meet Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri, the billionaire!

Islamabad: It is hard to believe that Pakistan’s economy may not be in strong shape if one just glances at the financial disclosures of the country’s ministers.
If papers filed with the Pakistan’s Election Commission are to be believed, the country’s foreign minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri is the only cabinet member to possess assets close to Rs 1 billion.
The assets of all other cabinet ministers represent an assortment of fortunes, but none of them is worth even one third of Kauri’s wealth. But, according to The News, hardly any declaration seems to be a true reflection of the actual financial position of the cabinet member.
Minister for industries and special initiatives, Jehangir Tareen comes a distant second with assets of Rs 345 million, but has liabilities of Rs 109 million.
Pakistan sports minister Mian Shamim Haider owns assets of Rs 162 million. He has assets brought or remitted from outside Pakistan, a Mercedes and a Pajero, besides a long list of other assets.
Women development minister Sumera Malik and her spouse own assets of Rs 145 million.
Political affairs minister Amir Muqam owns assets of Rs 118 million. He wrote that he has also mortgaged property worth Rs 45 million with the Bank of Khyber, Swat, and the Bank of Khyber, Peshawar, for getting performance security of Rs 80 million.
Interestingly, Pakistan spends around 5% of its GDP on defence. ANI

No it does not it and last years budget was 3.8.....

As for the rest of the article it is spot on.

.
Members of Pakistani government should be closely monitored through an agency (I believe we already have one. What is the name?) for check up in order to avoid corruption, bribes and chai-pani wali money.

Are you referring to FRL body?

May be. My knowledge is limited in that area. :frown:

You may be right as it has more & more to do with the economics.

What does FRL stands for?

.
Fiscal Responsibility Law. Main task of the body is to prevent grants of unlimited foreign credits and (illegal) bad loans.

Each foreign credit or loan is to be approved by National Assembly under the FRL which was implemented by Musharrad in 2004.

The body is also responsible for recollection of more than Pkr20 billion (sofar) of illegal and bad loans by corrupt politicians and industrialists under the BB/NS governments.

. . .
so what if these leaders own the assets...the average wealth of 100 million is nothing compared to the higher higher class of pakistan..leave alone the elite class...kasuri owns the beaconhouse, city school and educators chains of schools although they are on his sisters name..the audit means to avoid curroption not business and growth of these leaders.
