ISRO working on its new space programme is not new. The space programme is to send human beings to space and will be called Gaganyaan. However, before India actually sends humans to venture out into space, the Indian Space Research Agency is sending out a humanoid robot by the end of this year.
Here's the first glimpse of the humanoid which the Indian Space Research Organisation is planning to send out before sending out humans in 2022. The human team will consist of three men. Although there is no female onboard the Gaganyaan when it finally takes off in 2022, the humanoid robot is a woman.
Called "Vyom Mitra", the humanoid is capable of performing multiple tasks and also speaks two languages. The humanoid was first reported by Times of India.
ISRO chief K Sivan was quoted by the TOI last year has stated that the humanoid is almost ready. He was also quoted saying, "We want to make sure that this mission serves a purpose beyond displaying our ability to send humans and bring them back safely."
K Sivan stated that ISRO will be sending the humanoid in both the unmanned flights which have been planned before the actual human spaceflight mission. The TOI report quotes K Sivan saying, "Our robot will be like a human, and be able to do whatever a man can do, although not as extensively as humans."
