The Islamic State of Iraq and al-Shams (Isis) has imposed a strict set of Sharia laws on the citizens of Nineveh province just days after capturing the provincial capital of Mosul.

In a document circulating on social media attributed to the group, Isis warned tribal leaders and sheikhs not to "work with [the Iraqi] government and be traitors" while proclaiming that women should only go outside if absolutely necessary.

"For women, dress decently and wear wide clothes. Only go out if needed," read the document as translated by Al Aan TV reporter Jenan Moussa.

Further rules included bans on drugs, alcohol and cigarettes while public gatherings, the possession of guns and the carrying of flags not of the Islamic state were outlawed.

The document added that Isis wish to destroy all shrines and graves, in reference to Shia shrines in towns such as Samarra where fighting is continuing.

"For those asking who are you? We are soldiers of Islam and took on our responsiblity to bring back glory of the Islamic Caliphate.

"Money we took from [the] Safavid government is now public. Only Imam of Muslims can spend it. Anyone who steals [will have their] hands cut," the document translation read.

ISIS rules: Our position on Shrines and graves is clear. All to be destroyed basically. (9/11) #Nineveh @akhbar

Isis have continued their push towards Baghdad, seizing a town only 56 miles (90km) north of the Iraq's capital, according to reports.

The flashpoint town of Dhuluiyah and the area of Muatassam have been overrun by militants following a three-day offensive the Iraqi government has failed to stop, according to AFP.

The group has become the richest terror force in the world after looting $429m and large amounts of gold bullion from Mosul's central bank following the city's capture.

There is no such thing as "medieval sharia law" . This is a deceiving article.

Every Pakistani Muslim who prays namaz is practicing Sharia law at home. In Pakistan, Sunni Muslims read namaz the hanafi way, while Shia Twelvers follow Shia Mujtahids in prayers.

Following Islamic rules [ Shariah ] in prayers, that is what they are doing in Pakistan. It is not medieval.

ISIS has imposed its rules, not Shariah laws.

'Satisfying' to see the 'War in Iraq' reaching its 'natural conclusion'.

Btw what was the administration doing? Forget defense, the buggers could not even evacuate the gold of banks? Did they not even have the most basic evacuation protocol in place? If yes, I feel sorry for the people of Iraq.

well , there is nothing as medieval sharia law ,I agree with you , but sadly there is medieval understanding of sharia law . just look at Khavarej if their understanding of Islam was correct wasn't their fate something else ?

Shria law isn't medieval? What's your definition of medieval then? When was Shria law codified again? Kindly remind us all about the time period when this system came into effect.

Sharia law will be codified at the time , its not codified at the dawn of Islam if you mean that .

what part and code which is written in Qur'an is stone hard and can't be changed but the rest which is make bulk of it is up to government to decide upon it and is open to discussion and change according to the time and the situation of the community.

Lets be clear on this. Sharia is not medieval. Its the narrow interpretation which is more based on tribal customs and archaic traditions that Islam actually forbade us to practice.

This interpretation will bring ISIS downfall. The Taliban couldnt survive their primitive beliefs, ISIS also wont.
