I will just say what i always say on similar matters, "The term extremism cannot just be limited to religion. Extremists come in all shapes and sizes and the liberal ones are as dangerous as religious ones"
This particular incident for me was two extremists fighting each other, no rights or wrongs here!
Two extremists, period.
You know what the best part is? for 1400 years, Islam have been saying the same. The prophet on more then one occasions and about more then one situations mentioned to be moderate. Remember all those things about "Mayana Ravi" that we hear in school books as kids!! On other hand, the liberals are also supposed to be moderate. The problem really is that a group in both are becoming more and more extremist and those are BOTH equally responsible for the problems we face today.Since many Years on this same forum I am saying the same . Two extremes are destroying Pakistan.
We need moderate people NOT conservative extremists neither liberal extremists.

Just as much as you or anyone else have considered that perhaps it is liberalism or conservatism that is it problem and not religion.Have you considered the possibility that it is not liberalism or conservatism that is the problem, but the failure to keep religion as a private matter that is the problem? The imposition of religion as a social and legal matter is bound to create groups of people on either side of the issues thus created.

Furthermore, religion is a private matter as everyone will have to answer for himself. There are certain things that my religion tells me are not right so i will say that this is not right when i see someone doing that. However it is not that i must force him to change his actions. That is true for the person following any other religion or set of beliefs!
So what should the laws be based upon? There have to be some shared moral values, some common grounds on which to base those laws on.Religion as a private matter is great. Its imposition as a matter of law is what creates the problem, since the law must be equal for everyone, but the diversity of a society makes it problematic.

Is that a law too?Surely laws can be based on common grounds, but not religion. There are many examples to emulate.

More Catholic Than the Pope
WHAT PHOBIA?What phobia of religion? Religion is a necessity, but it belongs in the private domain. All I am pointing out is that imposing religion as a matter of law and policy over a diverse population in a society is bound to create far more problems than it claims to solve, as we can see from the evidence before us all, beginning from issues with ensuring equality for all members of said society.
The point i was making is why so much emphasis on isolating religion from every day's life? Why insisting that somethings that are taught about by the religion need not be part of the local laws? I think if implemented properly the laws and rules set by the religion can become great laws of a modern progressive society!Furthermore, religion is a private matter as everyone will have to answer for himself.
