Marble city project revived after five years

KARACHI:

The process of setting up a modern marble city has finally started as 300 acres of land have been acquired for the purpose which will house more than 200 processing plants, officials say.

Sindh Stone Development Company, a joint venture between public and private sectors, has taken up the task of mining, processing, value addition and export of marble and other stones in the province.

Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of Sindh Board of Investment, is the chairman of the company while provincial ministers for industries, investment and mining are its members.

A meeting of the company held on Friday decided that foundation stone of the marble city, which had been on the backburner since 2006, would be laid in January. A master plan is being prepared, which will be completed in a month.

Investment Secretary and Company Director Younus Daga told The Express Tribune that the purpose of establishing the marble city was to promote value addition and bring modern technology to the marble industry.

In its budget, the Sindh government has earmarked Rs50 million for the project, of which Rs3.5 million has been spent on the purchase of land while the rest will go towards preparing the master plan and laying the infrastructure.

Daga said the private sector would play an important role in running the marble city, adding plots would be given in a transparent way to real investors only and allotment to those who failed to install plants in the stipulated time would be cancelled. “Lease of the plot will be given only after completion of the project,” he said.

Sindh Stone Development Company Director and Marble Industries Association Chairman Sanaullah Khan said the marble city project would bring prosperity to the province.

It would help increase exports of marble goods with shipments expected to jump to $1 billion in a short period from the present volume of $60 million.

and non of the project is going to complete in coming 2023 under this govt even cz of unstable situation of karachi , we need to develop gawadar more now we cant depend up on a single port city

For Gwadar to become a proper port city, it needs the basic facilities first. I've been there and people don't even have clean drinking water, most people there are uneducated. As for these projects. KCIP is progressing smoothly. Textile city is progressing and expected to complete in a couple of years. The govt is bullsh-t, I agree.

if we can develop a city like islamabad in mountains no doubt we can make gawadar too by local and foreign investment and gawadr is at a ideal location , we really need another port city with proper infrastructure we cant depend on karachi we have seen how unstable condition of karachi shakes our economy and ports operations etc :S

For Gwadar to work you need to make peace with the locals. Don't depend on Raisani to do sh-t though. There can't be investment if the city lacks basic facilities, if Gwadar does somehow become a proper city then the locals will be against any outside people coming in and settling in the city. They have made that very clear.
Balochistan as a whole needs a proper makeover. It would be better if Gwadar is declared a separate province, same needs to be done to other major cities like Karachi.

Anyways this thread isn't about Gwadar so lets get back to topic.

When Islamabad was built it was the time when Pakistan was known as Asian Tiger, i agree it is possible to develop Gawadar but polititions will make excuse of collapsed economy.

BTW yes i agree Pakistan need Gawadar to become a mighty economic city just like Karachi, there are several reasons for it, firstly the reason u mentioned above, second in case of war with india, if Karachi is blocked for trade than Gawadar would still be open, thirdly Pakistan's economy will boost alot, & last that when Gawadar developed it will give jobs to Baloch locals & BLA terrorists will be loosers.

i agree that time pakistan was becoming asian tiger ,, chinese are ready to invest in pakistan blochistan gwadar then whats wrong in it ?? all we need is to give blochis their rights we cant neglect blochis more now .

as kidnapping , target killings and other things are concerned karachi is not behind balochistan in that field even karachi was facing worst time few weeks back , i know about the two ports dear all i am saying is we need another port city in blochistan gwadar with international standards, and about basic things for citizens even citizens of karachi are not having proper basic needs if govt can finish the target killings kidnappings in karachi why cant it finish in balochistan ??? , as far as other provinces are concerned only punjab is doing good in economy's growth rest of provinces are behind cz of awful conditions of law n order and corruption if punjab faces the conditions like that whole pakistan's economy will be down with in days. over population is not the problem of only karachi its problem of many major cities of pakistan now.

yes we all support gawader to develop and balochistan should be at peace, but you are treating like karachi like a sautella bhai, karachi is as important for pakistan as gawader will be, after pakistan karachi is very important for sindh karachi cant handle more immigration and gawader will take the influx in future who will build the future gawader and establish trade and industries there but what you are just saying is just absurd!!

karachi's main problem is, it is a mini pakistan and ethnic tensions, the day guys like you stop basing your thoughts on ethnic grounds and think about united pakistan, all things will be OK, if you think on the same divisions then gawader will face the same fate as karachi that is ethnic divide and lots of crimes

well karachi is important part of pakistan we are not treating karachi as sotaila bhai but our politicians have made this city a problematic city soo much divisions and problem leads to strikes n other law n order problems and economy + ports operations suffers from it new industries should be setup in new areas new port city with international standards is need of pakistan and is in interest of pakistan and can bring peace n prosperity in blochistan .
