Honda Atlas closes its manufacturing plant for December 2019

According to the numbers revealed by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA), the auto sector of Pakistan performed poorly, and sales numbers of all three major local manufacturers declined. For November, the sales of cars declined by 44.4pc when compared with the same period of 2018.

This is a substantial dip in the sales of automobiles in Pakistan, and it is a red flag for the future of the industry. The decline in demand and consequently in the sales has led local manufacturers to shut their production plants for some days. These days are called Non-Production Days (NPDs), where production is halted for a few days as the stock of the finished product piles up.

The auto sector is also giving concessions and discounted prices in order to stimulate the market and create demand for cars. Toyota recently offered to sell 300 units of Corolla Xli at a discounted price for the month of December. At this price, people can save PKR 125,000 on both the manual and automatic variants of the Xli. With the rise in prices of cars, many households now cannot afford cars, and hence, there is a decline in demand. Millat Tractors has also announced that the production of vehicles is halted for the rest of 2019 and will commence from January 2020. Shutting down production plants is also detrimental to employment in the auto sector of Pakistan.

Assembly plant. They don't manufacture anything in Pakistan. This is why thier cars become unaffordable if the rupee weakens against the dollar.

All Jap assemblers are in breach of their original contracts where after a certain years it was to be mostly localised manufacturing.

If anyone is to be blamed, it's these brands and previous governments who let them get away without fulfilling their original contracts.

Any sane government would have clamped down on imports to fix the deficit. So this was coming and these companies thought that they could blackmail and force the PTI government to back down.

They can shut down for good, that'll be best for all concerned, if they don't go for localised manufacturing.

Tabdeeli?

It serves these companies right, they have been looting the public for so many decades with substandard quality cars, if these car makers are to compete, they need to set up local industrial plants and step up in offering quality cars.

Yes, who wants that junkyard to operate?

You must be dumb to want that shit to operate and manufacture overpriced junk that is bought by even dumber people.

Considering imported cars are banned. This junk is the only option for Pakistanis now.

I can't drive a riskhaw or a bicycle as a personal car, you know to drive from Peshawar to Islamabad.

Current prices are according to 165 PKR TO 1USD.

Later on, dollar became cheap, and yet, prices are still the same. They are fast to respond to minute hike in dollar but never think of going back.

May Honda Atlas, Suzuki Pak and Toyota indus get bankrupt and rot for all the sh*t they have been selling for such high prices with no basic SAFETY STANDARDS.

JDM cars have far more features and safety than Pakistani made cars even if they are made a decade or two ago

Then there is a whole market of used cars mate.
Use them, instead of buying new junk at double the price just because you want to feel fine while giving away your money for free.

Overpriced junk is what they manufacture in Pakistan.
How you ever wondered the roads and atmosphere in which you run those cars? And the automachanics you take that junk to?
Honda is selling 'the junk' all over the world. You get what you pay for.

Tabdeeli?

Nahee. Zaalat and kameengee.

These auto makers jack prices up when dollar appreciates but now dollar has fallen significantly, they wont decrease price.

In a time when the business is not selling, what would a merchant do? Decrease prices, create incentives to lure buyers. These assemblers dont even make an effort. They all keep looking at the govt. to do something for them.

Same type of car cost 3 times less in India. How the f is that possible?
