Mamnoon seeks parties support for Karachi peace
Monday, October 21, 2013 - KarachiPresident Mamnoon Hussain says Karachi is not a colony of London. The countrys economy was dependent on complete maintenance of law and order and for that goal all stakeholders had to play their vibrant role so that the country could make progress.
The President was talking to the newsmen at the mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah where he arrived Sunday morning to pay tribute and offer his prayers for the departed soul of the great founder leader of the country. He laid the floral wreath on the tomb of the Quaid-i Azam.
The President said that the relations with the United States of America had improved. The Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif would raise the issue of drone attacks in Pakistan as the said issue would be the top of the agenda. The relations with the USA had been in doldrums for past many years but relations were now improving and bilateral trade relations between Pakistan and the USA were of pivotal importance.
He said that the country was passing through challenges that led to price-hike especially the hike in power tariff, which would require some three years to put things in order.
He said that the President had a constitutional role to play and it pertained to keeping federation and the provinces in chain of mutual understanding.
He disclosed that the backdoor diplomacy was being put in work for improving Pak-Afghan relations. The issue of Afghanistan after withdrawal of NATO forces and improvement in trade relations would also be discussed with the US President during the visit by the Premier.
Regarding the Karachi situation the President said Pakistan was a sovereign country and the government would leave no stone unturned to restore the port city as the city of lights with the help of the people of the city.
The country could not survive without unimpeded trade and economic progress in the metropolis and for that purpose, all had to play their role.
Earlier, the President had arrived at the Quaids mausoleum to pay homage to the great leader. He was accompanied by Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, provincial lawmakers belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.
