ISLAMABAD - Interior Minister Rehman Malik has announced an award of Rs 200 million for anyone who provides information on the whereabouts of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan.
The authorities have also offered amnesty to banned groups if they renounce terrorism.
“Ehsan is not associated with the TTP, but he is working for foreign elements. I will unmask him very soon,” the interior minister vowed while talking to reporters on Tuesday.
He claimed that the TTP had been divided into many groups, including the Waliur Rehman faction, the Hakimullah Mehsud group and other small factions.
“What kind of sharia does the TTP spokesman want to enforce in the country …the one which legitimises killings of innocent people and sanctions suicide bombings?” Malik asked.
He said “terrorists” were defaming Islam, the holy Quran and the sharia for money, adding that the government had struck a peace agreement with the Taliban in Swat which they had violated themselves.
To a query, Malik said Ehsan had issued threats to anchorman Hamid Mir, saying that law enforcement agencies would soon capture him.
Malik said the government could consider giving terrorists amnesty if they surrendered and gave up arms.
