Malaysia to use Huawei technology "as much as possible": PM

Source:Xinhua Published: 2019/5/31

Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Thursday that his country will make full use of the technology made available by Huawei in spite of the US ban on the Chinese tech giant.

When asked about whether Malaysia will follow some countries to shun the Chinese company at the 25th International Conference on the Future of Asia held in Tokyo, Mahathir said as Huawei's research capability is "far bigger than the whole of Malaysia's research capability," Malaysia will try to "make use of their technology as much as possible."

The 93-year-old statesman said China has excelled in scientific research and the United States may not win every race with China.

"US had good capabilities to do research and development in the past. They must accept that that capability can also be found in the East," he said.

"But if you want to have a situation in which you are always ahead, (and) if you are not ahead, I will ban you; I will send warships to your country; that is not competition; that is threatening people. That is not the approach we should use," Mahathir said.

The prime minister said the United States prospered because their companies have taken advantage of the low cost in less developed countries to produce components and parts for US products so as to stay competitive.

Asian countries like China, South Korea and Japan, spend much money on research and have earned themselves edges in many fields over the West, he pointed out.

"Today the East has learned all about research and development, so it is no longer a question of copying products from the West," he said. "Their research enabled them to produce even better products."

The stolen tech story was full of horseshit. Many world leaders aren't buying it. US can scam ordinary peasants using propaganda but not people who have access.

Even Brits don't give a hoot to what America thinks, why should Malaysia?

The British know that they are being monitored by the United States always, but also know the belows facts:
Huawei's product quality is better than Ericsson and Nokia. The price is 20% to 30% cheaper than them. So far, Huawei equipment has not found a back door, but US Cisco products have been found in Germany with at least 10 backdoors, and a large number of testimonies from Snowden as well!

This is "Century of the East". the sooner USA realizes and adjusts itself the better
The technology gap between China and the United States has narrowed, and the Americans have fallen into a panic of losing their advantage. The Americans are not striving to innovate and create more technology. Instead, the United States imposes tariffs on China today, and sanctions Russia tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, India and Mexico taxed and the United States does not care about international law at all.

In a word, the United States is more and more like a triad boss.

There is even more ridiculous thing: It is really funny that the United States does not join the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the United Nations Climate Convention, but requires China and other countries to abide by it.

US is crying against Huawei or any other non-US player in this core technology area because it will deny US (NSA) a lot of data for surveillance. So they will cry fowl and try to stop such companies from emerging on the global scale. So it is not China rather the duty of all countries who want to protect their citizens from being spied on, should use Huawei and other non-US controlled players.

I think the rise of Huawei is more to do with losing the ability to spy on countries as they will operate equipment that wont have your backdoors in them, but someone else's backdoors. That will correlate with economic opportunity from lost intelligence gathering capabilities..

Everyone spies on everyone else now. That is the reality of the world we live in. There is no privacy any more.

How much have countries lost out economically by operating comprimised american kit ? That is the question..

China-Malaysia are good partners in economic, cultural and political exchange. I guess, with the economic war by the US raging on and threatening export-oriented East Asian economies, deeper cooperation has become just more urgent.
