It’s indeed shameful that Malaysia AF has less planes that flies than Vietnam. Since Vietnam is at the rock bottom of advance defense fighting capability.

Really!!! how come?
4/28 is very dismal maintenance and speaks volume of their airforce and its unprofessionalism. What reasons do they cite? Can't they get spares or what?

But it is a bit misleading report as they have 8 hornets and 15 hawks so a total of 27 A/Cs.

BTW, Malaysia should go for JF17s. It is a lot of fighter for a little money and Pakistan and Malaysia are good friends so no issues of supplies in foreseeable future.

Problem of maintenance and spare parts requisition on 20+ years old MIG-29N (all 10 grounded, delivered in 1995) and SU-30MKM (4 out of 18 flyable, delivered 2007) because the Malaysian air force adopted the Indian air force way of dealing with Russian air craft manufacturers , plus lack of funds due to corruption of former UMNO lead government which lead to inefficient maintenance and delay spare parts delivery.

The F/A-18D (8 units delivered in 2003) are well maintained and are in good flying conditions.

Russian jets are cheap to buy but expensive and hard to maintain. American jets are expensive to buy but easy to maintain.

Malaysia's best choice is probably JF-17 considering the current unfavourable financial position of Malaysia and better efficiency of China's air craft manufacturers.
